    Southeast Transplant

    Good day to all,

I recently moved from North Carolina to Phoenix and it’s quite a change. I look forward to the awesome West Coast wheeling but was unpleasantly surprised to have my car insurance premiums double and that I have to have my 1993 YJ put through an emissions test. Which hasn’t happened since I got my Jeep 18 years ago.

Anyway, I shipped my YJ only to find upon arrival the license plate was ripped off/stolen and a rusted hole in my tail pipe I’ll have to fix before the emissions test.

I’m no stranger to forums and if you have an interest in my build you can find it on JeepForum. Link HERE.

    Though off to a rough start...I’m optimistic.Name: IMG_0627.JPG

Welcome to AZ! My son is at Ft. Bragg, NC and still cleaning up from flooding.

Luckily we don’t have functionality testing here. (Horn, wipers, etc)

Thanks. I left right before Florence hit, literally the day before. I worked for the power company so all my co-workers/friends were helping clean up down east. Fayetteville has the be the hottest place in North Carolina. No idea why, but it is. Probably like Phoenix is in Arizona?

Yeah, but it's a dry heat. Welcome to Arizona. If it gets too hot down there, you can always come up north to cool off.

Believe it or not there’s hotter. Bullhead and Lake Havasu are brutal. I was in Lake Havasu for 4th of July a few years ago and it was 110 at 9pm. But my bike has shown 127 here. Ugh.

I lost my taste for mud 10 years ago when I was a teenager. It tore up a lot of parts. I stick to the rocks and do my best to avoid any holes.

Look forward to the rocks here.

    Southeast Transplant

Welcome to AZ! Moved to Phoenix from Charlotte back in '04. Lived there, Weddington, Asheville, Marion and Cullowhee at various points.

Incidentally, just flew through Charlotte on Friday and had about 40 minutes to kill in B gates. Used that time to take down some Bojangles and a sweet tea so large I think I caught the diabetus.

Where in NC are you from?

Edit -- you might not like the cost of vehicle insurance, but you'll sure like the change in state income tax. If I recall correctly, state income tax in AZ is about half what it is in NC. Made me a happy man when I moved out here.

    Nice YJ...let's wheel!

Hey Scott, we are originally from Athens, GA, moved to Knoxville for graduate school, then to Raleigh for my wife to do more graduate school. I really loved Raleigh and hated to leave but I'm sure Phoenix will offer similar experiences if not better.

The one thing I do miss is a sweet tea. I'll probably have to make it myself, which is not a problem, but I know how much sugar I put in there and how much I can drink in a day. Trying to keep from becoming a third generation type II diabetic, haha. I'm curious to see how the state income tax is. NC was pretty expensive but in different ways.

Hope to see you on the trail sometime.

    Lou
