Need TJ rubicon or standard Dana44 rear axle housing

Turns out my rear housing is bent to sh*t as I am getting my stretch done. Looking for a used housing before i go a different route

Man, I feel for ya. Same issue here when I had rear end work done on my LJ rubi. Good luck finding a straight housing. I couldn’t find one but wasn’t willing to search forever.

Found 2 but $1600 and $1200 loaded. Looks like shaved 14 bolt may be the smart move

Yep, just dont forget you will need new wheels and then will have different bolt patterns and widths for your front/rear.

$1200 loaded actually isnt a bad price.

Nope getting 5 on 5 1/2 hubs. Plus I got spacers so only be 3"-4" wider in back I believe but that is a consideration. I got 35 spline ARB and shafts and disc brakes in my 44 so not sure what to do. I think the $1200 may be drum forgot to ask

why not have the housing fixed and braced? that would be the cheapest way. your only running 37'' tires, right? not tall enough for a 14 bolt. even a shaved 14 bolt is an rock anchor, that needs IMO at least 42'' tires to be worth the lack of ground clearance. I used to wheel with a guy who had a 14 bolt, spent most of his time hung up on it pissed off.

OK good to know. Yeah may be cheaper to straighten it vs finding a new housing. Need to researched shaved 14 bolts I thought they would have decent clearance

sorry but your links have no measurements. Also to have "around the same" ground clearance as a dana 44 you have to have a machine shop cut down the ring gear from 10.5” to 10.050” for clearance. http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/su...-differential/ Now im not saying that the 14 bolt is not a good option, they are and after the shave they are killer. but they need money and time to fit your application. The OP http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showt...r-axle-housing and so he has a "BUILT" dana44 but has a bent housing. so instead of starting all over on building an axle he could just fix the housing he has cuz he has all the parts for that axle. there is no denying the strength of a 14 bolt over a dana 44 hands down a winner, but if your only running 37's and don't plan to go any bigger. he could take apart the 44 and have the housing made straight and gusset it so it won't happen again. there is also the ford 8.8 or ford 9 that are stronger than the 44 and both of those can be "shaved" also. but you still have a front 44 that limits your tire size also. figure out if your going to a bigger tire size down the road if so, go with a bigger rear axle now and swap the front axle out later to a bigger one also. i was just giving him options as he already has a "BUILT" 44 it just has a bent housing. The old figure out the money and time ratio for each option and pull the trigger LOL.

Huh? When I bought my project, it had worn out 37's and a 1" shaved 14bolt, and I never got hung up on it. Even made it thru CD that way. I agree, I would straigten and brace your D44.
