Did you try to move it in park yet? Your xfer case may be popped out of gear, you did say it happened after a bump.
You don't need a Plan "B", if Jesus is plan "A".

transfer case out of gear will not throw those codes, catastrophic failure inside trans will

True. Those are both tranny codes, not 02 codes.

    Re: 42RLE Transmission Won't Drive

    My bad.. "saw" P071

Fwiw, p0731 is what mine threw

    Summary of pain
    Abridged version
    (Abridged too far?)

Last Crown King run (August'07?) started slipping in first, limped home
Had purchased Rubicon case, not received yet
Dropped pan, sludge in pan, new filter
    Still slipped
    Parked (other projects )
Bought low mileage 2009 JK transmission (RPM Hemi take out)

    After procrastinating, finally pulled trans.

    Installed

Started (long crank), no throttle response

Dropped (still connected ) trans to inspect harness

    Back up
    No change

    Back down
    Pulled harness
Discovered bare wires driver side plug
Tried other harness, all but one main plug (one of last to try) aaargh
    Recovered original harness
    Reinstalled
    Still no throttle response
Conferred with masses, made appt with dealership
Getting ready to to, re-positioned main harness
    Crank, crank crank
    No start
Several codes, including crank and cam position sensor
    Disconnected main plugs
Reconnected (note, I had done several times, never before problem )
    Started
    Full throttle response
    NO CODES

    HALLELUJAH!

Weight off chest makes Rubicon case feel like feather

Would not be surprised if disinterested wires at trans (4" from big green plug, above driver side of transmission pan, was under dried cloth tape)Name: Harness bare.jpg

Remember, trans is all electronic controlled

None were burnt, just all bare. Like yours, problem showed up with bump (not under load).
Suspect might have been just enough for wires to touch

Thanks for everyone input. I'm going to climb under the jeep tonight again and take my time to look at all the wire and connectors. If I can't find anything tonight I'm going to bite the bullet and take to dealer to run diagnostic.

    Where are you located?
Do you have auxiliary trans cooler?
    You have tried 4w low?

Dumb question- did you check idling in Neutral?
Chrystler transmissions have pump bypass in park, will read more than two chords higher than it actually is

I just checked. Idle seems normal in neutral. I just get a whining noise when I put it in gear. Going to drop the transmission tonight.

    Re: 42RLE Transmission Won't Drive

    It seems you misunderstood me.
You need to check the transmission fluid when it is idling in neutral.
If you check it when it is idling in park it will give you a false reading which is generally two to three points higher than it actually is. If it reads in the safe range while in park, you are probably 2 to 3 quarts low. Make sure you use the ATF plus 4 fluid not dextron
