Crazy how the media has the information before it is released to the dealerships. So, don't everyone call the dealerships right away to get the repair done. From what I understand it is a computer update/flash. Once I see official news on the recall/repair from FCA I will post it here for information. Right now dealers have no information on the Recall or Repair procedure.

That is crazy. Must piss dealers off at FCA, at least a little.

Yes, all day the phone calls for people wanting to check to see if their vehicle has the recall and wanting to set an appointment to get it repaired. Almost 5pm on Friday and still no FCA word or info available about the "" recall "". Best way to check is go to the NHTSA website and type in your vin #, if there is an open recall on the vehicle it is on there. So far none I have checked today are on there. I will post when I see some info on it. Still have lots of wranglers with clockspring and air bag open recalls.

    Update,

First information out for this recall. Recall # U49 is for 2014-2018 Dodge Journeys with gasoline engine and cruise control. It is to reprogram the PCM. Owner notification letters will begin mailing 6-1-2018. So, I am assuming they are going to release this in stages by vehicle model and years. Right now 14-18 Journeys only.

The problem in question can arise when, while using cruise control, these vehicles accelerate to maintain the set speed. While unlikely, FCA says, there’s a chance that this could happen at the same time as a short circuit in a “specific electrical network” in the car, which could leave the car stuck in cruise control.
Seems like correcting the affected circuitry would be a better approach than applying a software mod. According to the info above, there is still the potential for a short in a “specific electrical network” which doesn't sound good.
I guess the software fix is cheaper.

Software can create shorts by enabling sinking gates at wrong time.

I guess it is just a fluke that the cruise quit on my 2013 JKU the day the cruise recall was announced. The only Wranglers effected are 2018s.

I recently started using the MyCarFax app to track maintenance and mileage on all our vehicles. It instantly showed a recall for the BMW that we didn't even know about. Good resource. It also downloaded all the maintenance records from BMW, Moore Jeep, Airpark, and other places. The only one it doesn't seem to automatically get is Discount Tire, since I guess they're not part of that network. Convenient. Also shows the recommended maintenance reminders automatically.

That's was how I knew my clockspring was going out. Dealer wouldn't fix it under warranty claiming many things could go wrong to kill the cruise. Then the air bag light came on a month later. I got the recall done and voila! cruise worked again!

Re: FCA Recalling 4.8M vehicles including JL

Just got the recall notification for my '17 WK2 Trailhawk.

    ================================================== =
"Safety Defect/Non Compliance Description and Safety Risk

The fault handling strategy of the Engine Control Module (ECM) or PCM software in the affected vehicles does not remove positive torque requests from the engine controller if the CAN-C bus stops communicating while the cruise control is requesting positive torque. If the CAN-C bus stops communicating the cruise control may maintain current vehicle speed or possibly accelerate. If the driver does not shift to neutral or apply the brakes to stop the vehicle this condition can cause a vehicle crash without warning.

    Repair Description

Inspect the software level of the ECM/PCM and, if necessary, perform a software flash on the ECM/PCM of affected vehicles to improve the fault handling so that if the CAN-C bus does stop communicating any active torque requests will be cleared.

    Recall Status

INCOMPLETE BUT REPAIR PARTS ARE AVAILABLE
