    Fog Light Output Voltage

    Hello Everyone,
I am trying to hook up my L.E.D. Spotlights by wiring them to my fog light harness. I am using a relay, and everything works great until I start the engine. The relay starts buzzing, and only one set of lights begin flickering intermittently? The other lights stay on as they should? I checked the voltage of the fog light lead and it is just over 9 volts? Please help...

Ummmmmmm, probably not. They were working fine when I had them on a normal switch.

Sounds like Day time running lights. 9v is about correct for drl. The chatting is caused by the pulse width modulation they use to reduce the voltage.

Sounds like a jk problem. Lol. On my tj the led fog lights work great.

Yes it's a JK problem. Take a look at antiflicker harnesses on amazon. Or you could solder a small capacitor across the trigger side of the relay to hold it 'on' when the pulse goes away.

Ok, I have tried capacitors and even a 9 volt relay and nothing is fixing this issue. There has got to be a way this has been done successfully???

If you want, you can come over and we can take a look at it.

You might need a resistor in the circuit. The relay might not be drawing enough current. The capacitor will help with flickering if it is a pulse style circuit, like the headlights. I havent messed around with the fogs yet, but i do believe they are controlled by the ecu.

    Re: Fog Light Output Voltage

All lights on modern cars are controlled and powered with pulses, not flat DC. This makes bulbs last longer, and allows dimming. Relays may not like this much. I put a relay on the interior lighting circuit so I could run some courtesy lights all around the Jeep, and it only buzzes during the quarter second that the lights dim to off. But the fog lamp may be running a shorter pulse width, or you have an overly sensitive relay.

I have tried different relays (12v, 9v and 6v). All of them buzz badly while the lights flicker.
