Axle end drive shaft U joint

Hello wall whom are more knowledgeable then my self.

I canít seem to figure out Via YouTube how to get the axle side U joint on the front drive shaft off. I have watched every video I can find but this one looks different. Basically I canít find any clips and the ends have dents on them. Afraid to press into it. The joint is fine but I figure since I have it out why not. If you all could share some knowledge. Thanks in advance

I had a shop press it out and have the replacement u joint but the caps are too big for the opening. Has anyone else replaced this u joint before??

    U joint size.

The left is new and the right is the one removed. Nothing online states that itís wrong or that there is a different option.

Has anyone made the opening wider??

That is a axle shaft joint. The joint on the axle is not changeable it's crimped in there and if you force it out there is no groves for the clipes

Crap. I had a feeling going into this!! Crappy thing is I didnít need to replace it was just trying to be diligent since I had the shaft down.

Thanks for answering that question for me.

Do you know if Mesa drive shafts will change the yokes? Thinking that it might be a good back up.

Axle end drive shaft U joint

Question everyone. I got a replacement shaft from AMC 4x4 but itís 2Ē longer then the original on the cv end. Now my question is. Is the longer one better since I lifted the Jeep 3Ē and still ran stock? Or should I use my old cv end of the shaft since that is the only section that is longer?

It looks like there may be enough slip in the driveshaft that the extra length may not be an issue, have you tried installing it to see how much slip you would have with it installed?

I'm sure the difference is one is for a auto and the other is for a stick. Make sure it will still collapse when installed or it will ruin your transfer case. If it was me I would take it back and get the right one.

Re: Axle end drive shaft U joint

Thanks guys. Really getting mixed answers on this. Some people saying cause of the lift it should be ok. I was going to install it to see what happens. What is a good test to see if it is collapsing enough. I also still have the high angle cv from teraflex not sure if that makes any difference. Donít think it will. I just donít know how to test that it will collapse enough.
