8th Annual VJC YJ Run - Postponed

-- The 8th Annual YJ Run is being postponed until later this year --

THE 8TH ANNUAL YJ RUN WILL TAKE PLACE IN PARKER, AZ

Where: Morning meetup before the day's festivities will be at the La Paz County Park in Parker. Look for the giant group of people with square headlights. See maps below.

Who: All 1987-1995 Wranglers, anyone who has participated in any of the previous 7 YJ Runs, and anyone else who is willing to put square cutouts over their headlights for the weekend and let us take photos (there will be a limit on the number of non YJs

What about camping and accommodations: It's recommended that folks consider making this a weekend trip. Fee RV camping is available at the Pirate's Den. Fee RV and tent camping are available at the adjacent La Paz Campground (see maps and contact info below). Pirate's Den has a popular restaurant and bar. While the trailheads are 3-4 miles from this area, an off-highway route from camp-to-trail exists for trailer queens. La Paz has restroom and shower facilities, and there are hotels nearby for those wanting somewhat more luxury. Free camping is also available closer to the trails off of Cienega Springs Rd aka Desert Bar Rd. More info on camping and contact info for Pirates, La Paz & the Havasu Springs Resort (motel) is in the 2nd post.

We will kick the day off together and depending on participation will then split into two groups, attempt to meet up mid-day for grub at the famous Desert Bar, which is worth the trip to Parker all by itself, then hit up more trails.

Group 1: This group will run moderate trails that are rated 3.0-3.5 such as - Adventure Canyon, Drunk Trail & Cat Tail. Minimum 31" tires, front & rear recovery points required. Traction aids such as LSD or locker strongly recommended on at least one axle, but not required. Rigs without traction aids will have a more challenging day. Be prepared for body scraping and, as always, vehicle damage. If you're in a smaller rig, but have run some of the moderate trails in Parker before and want to participate, please PM me.

Group 2: This group will run trails that are rated 4.0+ such as - Rio Lobo, True Grit, Truman, Deliverance & President's Choice. Minimum 35" tires, 2 lockers required. Winch recommended - a couple spots may require winching for vehicles with 35" tires. Body damage possible. For folks who have never run a 4.0 trail before but want to, this is a good opportunity as there will be experience in this group.

Optional night runs will likely be happening on Friday and/or Saturday nights. As always, camping will be a great time.

Be prepared for breakage and the fact that this area is 2.5 hours from Phoenix. You know the weak points on your rig, so bring your tools and key spare parts if you have them.

There will be no cap on the number of participants.

    I'm in, let's do this:
    1. Scott / Treekiller - '93 YJ

Re: 8th Annual VJC YJ Run - Saturday April 21 2018

If you want to stay overnight or both nights, here are the options

Link to La Paz Campground RV and Tent Camping: http://www.lapazcountyparks.com/lpc-park-brochure.html
Dry Camping (Tent) is $16 per night
RV Parking varies based on hookup needs
All spaces @ La Paz are FIRST COME FIRST SERVE -- there are no reservations.

Link to Pirates Den RV Resort: http://piratesdenresort.com/

Both are waterfront on the Colorado River and a short distance from the trails.

For anyone looking for more comfort than a campsite can provide, IE a motel room or suite, contact the Havasu Springs Resort, ask for Ryan and mention that you're with VJC and coming out for the YJ Run. You will receive a discounted rate for your stay. Havasu Springs is about 10 minutes from the La Paz Campground.

    Havasu Springs Resort
    2581 Highway 95
    Parker, Arizona 85344
    Phone: 928.667.3361
    info@havasusprings.com

As an alternative, free camping is available along Cienega Springs Rd enroute to Desert Bar

Re: 8th Annual VJC YJ Run - Saturday April 21 2018

    Previous Runs

April 2012 - Inaugural VJC YJ Run @ Sunflower

In October 2012, because so many had indicated they were interested, we held the 2nd semi-annual YJ Run. Again, nearly 20 rigs (many different from the first run) showed up for both a weekend of camping and wheeling at Pyeatte Draw in Payson. This time, we had a more varied range of vehicle builds and driver skills. http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showt...012&highlight=

April 2013 marked our 3nd semi-annual YJ Run at Table Mesa. This time, the theme was a bit different. We had a large group run the Crapshoot Loop, and a buggy group run Die Hard. Afterward, much of the group continued on to run Lower Terminator and other trails. We had our largest turnout this time, with more than 25 rigs showing up for the day. http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showt...esa&highlight=

April 2014 marked our 4th annual YJ Run at Florence Junction, with more than 30 rigs including some from other clubs and several with square cutouts over their headlights. There was a large Friday night run contingency that turned into a late and eventful evening on the trail. Once again, on Saturday, we split up into two groups. Everyone ran Upper Woodpecker together, then one group went on to run Ajax, while the other hit Highway to Hell, then circled back around to hit Upper Ajax. On Saturday, we got hailed on, sleeted on, and the folks without tops took a thorough soaking! The water made H2H tougher than normal for a lot of rigs as well. http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showt...ils&highlight=

In April 2015, we held the 5th annual YJ Run in Parker, with the help of the Parker 4 Wheeler's Club. This time, we had about 23 rigs plus a few guest rigs show up. Our night run on Friday evening included Truman. On Saturday, we split into two groups. One group ran moderate trails Adventure Canyon and Cat Tail, while another ran harder stuff such as Rio Lobo, True Grit, Deliverance and President's Choice. Most everyone enjoyed a little time at the Desert Bar and the Pirate's Den. A lot of people said this was the best YJ Run yet..but it was a little far from the valley and we seemed to be victimized by a lot of breakage this year http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showt...-Trails/page15

April 2016 happened to come not long after the official re-opening of our original trail, Sunflower Mine. This year we had 12 rigs come out to check out what Sunflower had become. The trail has a lot less historical value now, but the terrain was still a lot of fun. The forest road was pretty smooth for less built rigs, and the optional terrain in the creek bed proved to be a blast for the modest and heavily built rigs. http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showt...er-Mine-Photos

April 2017 saw the first 2-day YJ Run on Rug Road. Some of the group met up in Mammoth AZ on Friday, and camped at the meetup location on Friday evening. We had an eventful night replete with law enforcement when a random person in a truck decided to haul *** through the middle of our campground and nearly run some of us over while we were enjoying a fire and adult beverages. On Saturday morning, the rest of the group met up with us and we all hit the trail. After driving some 25 miles off-road and down Carpet Hill, we set up camp for the night at Parson's Grove under some massive cottonwood trees, enjoying the time away from the city. On Sunday we made our way back to Mammoth. This trip included some great scenic views. http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showt...04#post1063804

Interesting that almost none of the above pictured "YJ's" resemble my 90 YJ. In that spirit, I'm offering up (for loan only) the grill from my jeep to legitimize someone's ?J.

Might be good for people to indicate their desired group. I'd be interested in group 1 but I'm guessing most, if not all, of those already signed up are group 2 participants.

Yep run is still a go. Have not been keeping up with the activity on fb over the last week or so as I have been occupied elsewhere.
