    Headers?

I have a 1974 CJ5 Jeep, AMC 360 with fender-well exit headers. I want to move my exhaust inside the frame and have been looking for either "shorty" or "mid length" headers and have the exhaust terminate just in front of the rear axle. Anyone have any thoughts on this plan or have you done it? What type of header did you use (manufacturer & style) and where did you buy them? TIA Bob

    Re: Headers?

It gets tight in there when running headers inside the frame rail but can be done. I have used hooker, headman and summit racing headers and all have been good though the hookers and headman were a little better quality. shortys are a waste of money, long tube are what makes power and torque, you can use stock manifolds with dual exhaust also and be the same as shortys but the fit is way better.

    Re: Headers?

I had a 74 cj5 and eventually took the headers completely off and put stock exhaust manifolds back on. Made my feet a lot cooler.

you can always wrap the exhaust to cut down on heat.

    Re: Headers?

Thanks for the comments.........all are valid for sure! I had thought about going back to stock, but the stock manifolds, in good condition, are almost impossible to find. Anyway, I will keep on Jeepin'

    Take Care and thanks again,

    Re: Headers?

OEM cast iron manifolds are still available... From a variety of sources... Better yet... They are a significantly better match for non-racing off-roading uses...

I think I went to the junkyard and pulled some off a Cherokee. Probably for 20 bucks.

I agree on losing the headers and going back stock. You will be glad you did.
