Re: What happened to this forum?

The biggest issue with the forum platform is the uploading of pics. If I want to upload pics from my computer, I have to first reduce them in size. We take pics with a camera instead of a phone. So its a real PITA for someone without dedicated software for that purpose. I've got pics from the last 4 runs just sitting on the computer because I don't have 3 hours to post them up. If so many other platforms automatically reduce the size, why can't the forum?

I keep hearing this, but posting pics isn't all that difficult or extremely time consuming! No special software is needed; I use Windows Office Picture Manager on PC or the photo editor on my Mac Book to crop and clean up if necessary. Then either use the forums pic uploader or https://postimages.org/ which is free.

Spending a little bit of time for pics that will be seen thousands of times for many years to come is worth it!

This forum software seems to be well stuck in the 90s for sure. I run a busy motorcycle forum and it's certainly a little work, but not much work to keep things up-to-date so people can post from their rides, the track, or wherever. We've lost no activity to Facebook, and I think it's for two reasons. One is just that ease of use from ALL types of devices including hassle-free photo uploading. People can no longer be assumed to be using one type of device or one method of access.

That said, there are a dozen ways to quickly resize photos on any platform. I have to assume you use Windows since it's trivial and built-in on a Mac. Ten years ago when I was still using Windows I had a plug-in that let me right-click a group of photos and instantly create a new version of any size parameters. Surely that still exists. It's something anyone who takes photos seriously should have anyway (I assume you are using a non-phone camera for some type of quality reason).

I haven't looked at Facebook in a couple weeks after getting sick of the anti-gun idiots that came out en masse with offensive memes before the bodies even cooled. I don't miss *it* much, but do miss interacting with some people. I'll do some massive cleanup before going back.

I've never spent less than 30 minutes uploading photos for a run. And that was like 10 pics. Perhaps I'm not as computer savy. I use the photo manager on Win 7 but I have yet to find any way to do it on Win 10. Most of my photos end up on our Win 10 machine because that is the wifes and she takes the pics. No I don't have a network setup.

You can use Easy Thumbnails to resize entire folders of pictures without changing the originals. I used it to upload literally thousands of photos when I had my website. I'm not tech savy either. Easy Thumbnails really is easy. And you can lower or raise the quality, adjust the contrast, etc.. I liked it because you can upload them, then delete them leaving only the originals on your machine.

Oops. Rsdracing.com is available for over $4000. Rdsracing is available cheap. If you wait, retracing may become available too. These guys get these domain names and hold onto them hoping to make some fast cash by selling them. If they forget to renew them, in a few months they become available again.
