Your build is a bookmark on my computer. Nice work. I was thinking the same thing on the tires, that it would end up in the teens.

I went back and edited the build thread so that both the information on the 2,000# cushions and the offroad tire offset option are in bold and underlined. It was on the first page, post #3, second photo

I saw that. Thanks. One of these days I might hit you up to come look at yours, before I start the construction. I am not set to start for another month, as I have a few other projects first.

Wish I could show it to you, but got tired of trying to pull it with my gutless '14 JKUR and sold them both a couple of years ago. Now I am considering finding a JK without and engine or axles and building up a V8 1 ton JK. You are a bad influence.

Funny, and I am glad I help other people empty their wallets so I am not alone. I have towed a couple utility trailers so far full of wood with my JK and it does pretty good, even up the big hills to my cabin. But frankly I am still a little worried about it. That is why I am trying to not overbuild the trailer.

I finally got off my butt and started working on this thing. I got the backbone of the frame done. Once I figure out where the axles are going to mount then I can finish that and start doing the uprights.

The ratio I always used for axle location on single axle trailers was 60/40 of the cargo area; 60 being the front portion. That could vary though depending on how you intend to load it (weight distribution heavy to the front or rear?)

IIRC, shoot for 10% of the total weight, empty or loaded, on the hitch.

I am going to have a spare tire on the tongue which will more than even out any weight. I am going to do about 5 inches behind the center of the cargo area

I made a lot of progress this weekend. I finished the base frame, and got the axles mounted. I did all the finish welding on the bottom and flipped it over, which was no easy feet.

So I finished the cross pieces and welding the top.

I decided to start on the tailgate. I am using a CJ7 tailgate but wanted it to lock. So I bought some "bear claw" latches and a T-handle and cut the tailgate apart. After screwing with it for a while, I welded them in and it came out pretty nice. I will finish welding the parts back together tomorrow but it all works great.

I decided to mount the hubs as it was getting a little heavy and I figured it was time to put it on its wheels.

Re: Offroad trailer build (on 40's of course)

So adjusting the Timbrens for Camber and Toe In took quite a while. A slight movement changes it so much that I spent about 2.5 hours getting it right. I had to use the spacers to get the camber right, but in the end everything turned out good.

It was back to the metal store for more stuff and welding gas today, so that burned half my day. Then I worked on the frame for the box getting it exactly square. I wanted to make sure the gaps on the sides of the tailgate were exact. It came out really nice with good gaps and pretty square.

The fenders are going to just hook to the support fox the box since there isn't much extra room with the 40s.
