Nice area of the state. The town of Bowie can be skipped unless you like boarded up windows, trash, shacks, etc. The monument looks really cool. Lots to see down there.

Fort Bowie site itself is pretty interesting. Good museum, lot of history. It is a fair walk from the parking area to the site, about a mile one way IIRC. There is a handicap parking area about 500 ft away from the museum (up hill all the way, so not sure what good the handicap designation is, because that 500 ft isn't), but the road into there can be a little difficult to find.

Chiricahua Nat'l Monument is definitely worth seeing. Lots of dispersed camping south outside of the monument.

Definitely worth the trip and the hike...

Allow time to take the alternate trail back...it runs the ridgeline and it's a beautiful view...

IIRC it wasn't really any longer but a couple of steep climbs and rocky stepping....

Did it about 4-5 years ago...

Went last year with the wife. Good trip with scenic driving. Chiricahua NM is very beautiful. Good wineries in the area too
