What are you doing with it ? I know shooting but hunting or targeting . Do you shoot or plan on shooting 1000 rounds every weekend. Have you fired a AR style rifle before ? Are you thinking price? Or what modifications do you like or what kind of Accessories do
    you like ?

I plan on just target shooting. Probably a few hundred rounds a month, nothing like 1K every weekend. I have never fired an AR style gun before. Price is a consideration. Mods and accessories would probably be minimal to none. thanks.

    Buy both! ! ! ! !
Mini 14 is a great truck gun and hunting rifle.
Will take a beating and keep working.
Carry mine most of the time when out on the trail looking for that Lion to show up.
AR - 15 is a fun gun to play with and can also be used for hunting if you want.
    Both great rifles.
Enjoy what ever you decide to buy.

Mini 14 $747 at Wallly. Seemed like I saw Ruger AR 556 for $699 at Big 5.

    Get it before the election.

Well yes it does depend on what brand the AR style rifle you look at. If you go with quality compared to ruger... price may change....

I have experience with both. The Mini was notoriously inaccurate. The AR is quite accurate and I would suggest the 5.56 caliber.

    AR.

Mini's are overpriced and mags are $$$. The AR market is saturated and stuff is plentiful and cheap. Ability to buy different uppers in different calibers and lengths is a plus too.

im right by Rio and can let you shoot ARs in multiple calibers and lengths. Dont have a mini-14, never felt the need for one.

    ^^ that.

I built one for about $500 with a PSA freedom SS upper and an Aero Precision lower. I am sure it runs just as well as a $2k AR. I changed out the stock and grip for some more comfy ones, so there's maybe another $50-75. Mags for the AR start less than $10. Etc. On the other hand, people tend to get uber crazy spending money on mods for their AR's just to keep up with the Jones'.
