Re: Willys MB - "motor pool" project

Yesterday was "The Worlds Shortest Memorial Day Parade" here in town.

The last couple of weekends I was able to get a musette bag, a bumper rope and weld up some cracks in the rear frame area that took out a lot of creaks and squeaks and made the Jeep a little more solid feeling again. We bagged up lots of candy and the kids and I tossed out little bags of candy to all the kids watching. Last few years my kids have ridden in the Fire Department vehicles so it was a change. Jeep ran great and we had a lot of fun.

Now that the parade is over and the Jeep is running well and reliably, Im going to catch up on other work around the place before I get into fixing the drivetrain leaks and replace more wiring.

Bumping around town in this old thing is such a hoot.

One day I would like to restore one of these.
    That thing is amazing.

    Thanks guys !

One of things that's so intriguing is how simple of a machine it is, yet very well thought out considering how quickly the prototype for it was developed and then rushed into production. Its a bit like a tractor in a lot of ways too. Parts are still easily available and arent all that expensive if you have to find them. The other side of that simplicity is that there are limitations like you really shouldnt go over 45mph and driving it in regular traffic might be a safety risk. For me, that wont be even a remote problem. The first time my kids got in it they were looking for the seat belts and they were a bit stunned when I told them there arent any, and never were any. Did not compute. haha.

Been a lot more fun than ever would have thought. Im really glad I took the chance on this deal.

Found it on Craigslist last week. WW2 jeep trailer.

Still had the pintle hitch loop on it.

It was built here in the states, sent to Europe for the war and then surplus-ed to the Swiss military and then imported back to the USA about 15 years ago. The Swiss took good care of it. Currently putting it back into U.S. configuration.

Thanks , I was pretty lucky to find it at all. The seller didn't know it was an MBT and had it listed as German. I was browsing thru Craigslist and stumbled across it. It's a great accessory for the jeep.

The new trailer has a tailgate at both ends or front only?
And if it's in the front, is it really a tailgate?
Nicely done, and nice match for the MB.

Re: Willys MB - "motor pool" project

Yeah it was a Swiss modification done both front and rear. The panels pull out rather than being hinged. Not all of the Swiss trailers had this done to them but I read of some other known examples. I could get some repair panels and return it to being "amphibious" but the panels were done quite well so I'm just going to leave them be. Would be interesting to know what specific task these with the gates were meant for.

    Getting Americanized...

Power washed to knock off the bulk of loose paint , gave a quick spray of OD , swapped on some proper combat wheels and a few other parts I had from the jeep-parts pile. It's not restored by any means but good enough for Crown King, haha.

Crown King Memorial Day Parade 2018

Another good parade - Crown King style. We bagged up lots of candy an threw it to kids watching the parade. Had lots of people asking about the trailer.
