Re: Soldier Pass trail at immediate risk of public closure - help needed

I've decided the best why to protest the commercial only use of soldiers pass trail is to hike the trail every weekend while not yielding to the commercial traffic wearing only enough clothing to be considered legal. My flabby body will detract from the view and the jeep runs will be so slow it would be nearly impossible to make a profit.

Sorry to say gents, but I would say you may as well kiss all the trails around Sedona goodbye soon, very soon. I witnessed the same thing in Cali when (I hate to admit) I lived there. In between Corona and Lake Elsinore and then beyond down to Temecula, there used to be some really cool 'truck trails' into the myriad of canyons that led up into the Ortegas, but more and more housing developments were built right up to the edge of the access to NF land. So of course, the new land owners via whatever means available would close off all access, even to hikers. When first this thread was started, I believe I did a GIS search on Yavapai county's website and you could see how more recent and more $$ paid for the properties near this trail.

[rant]I wish that AZ could pass a law stating that if you relocate to AZ from CA, you MUST leave all your effin Cali attitudes at the border or you get deported back![/rant]

Because that is what is happening to Sedona and basically that whole area. Expect areas around Jerome to be next. I remember when . . . . Sedona was just a wide spot in the 89A between Jerome and Flag which went through Oak Creek canyon and no body knew about Slide rock.

Well, this smells of some serious corruption doesn't it?

    Late breaking news:

The Coconino Regional Forest Supervisor has decided to go with Alternative C, which will allow permitted access by both commercial and private trips.

Perhaps it's not the best outcome, but it's certainly better than a private scenic drive benefitting a commercial tour operator. At least there will be some limited access for the rest of us.

Agreed. Looking ahead it sets the bar a bit higher for other neighborhood groups who want the forest to cut traffic.

I don't think there was any better realistic option here. There was zero chance they'd leave it fully open with the traffic levels on that trail, and this beats full closure or tours-only.

Here's the outline that details the number of permits per day that will be available to the public and the private through the now apparently approved Alternative C, and compares them to the allowed usage under the other alternatives (LOL).
