Sometimes kids in drugs would be cheaper...

But noooooo, we push them to be gear heads and they build bad *** diesel trucks then only after a couple payments on a 5 year co-signed loan, they modify their stuff and melt Pistons in their engines.... Very very expensive engines....

At this point, teenagers on drugs would be cheaper... But who can afford drugs when you melt the top of your #6 piston off your 6.7!!

He ended up getting a personal loan to rebuild his engine... Which is a good thing since I am the co-signer to the truck!

Only problem is he is still a 20 year old diesel nut and he is upgrading everything... Which is a good thing but then he will think he is really bullet proof now and perhaps push the truck harder against some of his buddies trucks...SMDH...

Personally I believe if he had Water/Meth this probably would not have happened.

    Meth is a powerful drug.

    Cool pics!

Have him stick with trucks and keep co-signing them loans; way cheaper than rehab, lawyers and cheesy ho girlfriends!

this is why I'm never co signing a loan. They want a car, they buy it with their own money, just like I did...

Oh he bought plenty of trucks/vehicles with his own money & loans, make no mistake... But at the time last year he was working contract under a 1099 and did not have proof of income for the year. I co-signed due to this year after taxes he will re-finance in his own name...

And he makes the payments with his OWN money... Where do people get off thinking they don't pay for it??

And how many parents have helped with college loans??

Plus I have just one kid, not a bazillion where if one gets some the other does too... So it's easy.

I was mostly meaning, I wouldn't want to be invested in any way with the vehicle, emotionally, financially, etc. I would go crazy stressing about other people's stuff.

Yesterday I stopped by my parents and my mom saw that I had a new to me car, and came out to see it. My dad was too disgusted that I had yet another car regardless the reasons, so I probably get that from him.

Moderators- Can you merge this thread with this one?

Hopefully, your son just learned a valuable lesson about the true cost of HP/TQ! It took me blowing up more than one before I learned it though.

He swears no high EGT. Was pulling 12k and just barely started up a grade. He said he heard some knocking which I believe to be way advanced timing. He is running a RaceMe tuner. Was on the tow tune.

First off, I'm no diesel expert. But that damage could easily go either way; high temps or debris. It's hard to say for sure. Is there similar damage to the adjacent cylinder?

This is my fear of soot busting loose and going through the compression chamber. I don't have the answer. Just more questions.

Nope not debris. This is 200% EGT temps and/or pre-detonation. Soot debris will not cause damage. Just diluted fresh oxygen.

    Injector intact, valves intact, etc

Egt probes go bad , I've gone thru a lot of them as I'm paranoid about egts,

I've built a few big Cummins that came back looking like that and it always boiled down to operator error. Owners not knowing how to drive it and watch things.

Sucks after spending 10-15 k on a build only to melt it away
