I saw this about a year ago and was very interested, think I might have to get one after my hard top is ordered.
Thanks for bringing this out for the public.
Hi, I just wanted to you know that my LJ soft top is finally becoming a reality from a manufacturing stand point. I know the LJ market is not all that big, however I am a big fan of that model. The first top was made in my garage and then posted to the internet and from there I had a number of folks who wanted them so we continued down the road of manufacturing. We are doing a short production run in the fall and will most likely run out of reserved tops during the preorder phase but there is still time if you are interested.
The TJ prototype has also been completed so that will most likely follow, but one thing at a time.
Here is the new website with more info: www.americanconvoy.com
Here are some pics. See the website for more pictures and the sign up sheet to be put on the list for preorder.
Thanks,
Greg

That TJ setup is looking really sweet! thanks for sharing.
Nice, I used to see that LJ occasionally parked across the street from my old house in South Chandler.
If you’re not paying for it, you’re the product. #deletefacebook
Harbour drive? My buddy lives there. :-)

Cool top, but that price is crazy, especially for a trail rig

I have to agree. I am not sure that I would buy an expensive soft top for a rig that is constantly getting body damage but do I run decent trails in my LJ like Elvis, Sunflower, Hackberry, and Terminator and have had no issues with it. Like all soft tops though, you need to remove the windows because trees and brush will scratch ghem while wheeling. I wouldn’t suggest buying anything nice and abusing the heck out of it, but if there is one top on the market that can take abuse, this is it.
I guess I should talk about the price as well while we are on that subject. $2350 is the preorder pricing as per the website. As for the price point itself, there are several reasons for a higher price. If you are comparing a $400 top which has no hardware, just lays on the roll bars of the jeep and is made from a less expensive fabric, there really is no comparison. The hardware itself is extremely stout and costs much more to manufacture. Add twice as much fabric to the equation because of the size and shape of the overall top and this increases the pricing as well. Also take into account we used 38oz sailcloth, the whole thing is reinforced at all points where the material touches the metal, and there are 6 pieces to the top with more zippers and features than any other top. There are tops on the market (not for Jeeps) that do have some similarities like Badger tops for land rovers, for instance, which have fewer features/configurations, are not made from sailcloth, and have a less ruggedized frame construction with fewer pieces that sell for $1000 more than ours. The company is not making a big profit on these, rather I wanted to make sure the folks that wanted them could buy them. If you look at the factory sailcloth folding tops for the LJ, they are about $1750, with less fabric and less expensive hardware made of thin aluminum rods and plastic. Ours is 100% powder coated steel and is rock solid so yes our top is more expensive, but there is more value in what you are getting. I hope that helps put things in perspective on the pricing and I understand that not everyone would want to pay that much, but we really did our homework and came up with the best pricing we possibly could.
