Carb replacement - Stock (Carter?) vs Motorcraft 2150

We've had difficulty in the past getting our '83 CJ-7 to pass emissions. The only way to get it to pass is to have our mechanic take it ... adjusting the carb in the process. Thinking of replacing with a Motorcraft 2150 or a Weber. The Weber is already purchased but not installed, wondering if that or a Motorcraft would be better. Or we could keep dealing with the Carter that's on there at the moment.

Here's a link to the pics of the current carb. I'm thinking it's a Carter? The second carb is a replacement which was purchased a few years ago but never installed ... looks like a Weber?

Here's the Motorcraft 2150 I'm looking at on Ebay:

    Thanks!

To follow up on the previous thread, it's at Ken's Transmission right now having the trans fixed.

I know a lot of people have good experiences with the 2150, I had a 4brl Holly on my 83 and it would barely fail emissions.
I ended up getting it registered as a collector, emissions exempt, anyway.

Steve, OlneyJeeps, on here is the guy in the know.

    Good luck

I put the 2100 on my 90. It is far better than the Carter. However, keep in mind that it isn't just as simple as pulling the old carb and bolting on the new. I don't have emissions here in Wickenburg so I don't know if mine would pass a sniff test or not. I know it would not pass a visual because about 90% of the vacuum crap is gone.

The webber is a great carb too and if you have that, I would go that way.

As good of things I hve heard abt weber, for emisions I have not had good luck ( mechnic for 3 tour companies, regularly took 1 CJs/through emissions each year. What part of town? Can walk you through setting for emissions. If not daily driver, find agent who will write as collectot.

I put that same 2150 on my cj. The 2100 that I had on there before ran great on the street but on the trail was a PITA. Bouncing, incline, decline and off camber caused it to flood (same thing happened to my buddies Holly on the same trail). That 2150 from ebay has been modified for off road. The person who could give you the scoop on how well it performs is MV3 on this forum. Maybe he will chime in or you could PM him. Mine runs good on the street but I haven't had the chance to try it on the trail.

Have you taken yours through emissions or are you in a lucky part of the state where it isn't required?

I have not taken any with mc through missions. As it is bigger carb, I suspect it may be problematic for emissions. Though I hav run with many who had / loved theirs, never had on my personal ( V8, I run edelbrock 600 4bbl)
