    T5 transmission replacement - Sourcing/shop questions

Long time member, been away for a bit. My brother-in-law's CJ-7 is bringing me back here to get some advice on a transmission replacement. Hope you all can steer me in the right direction!

The T5 transmission has finally bit the dust, and we are wondering the best place in the valley to replace/rebuild it. Or a good place to buy a transmission and a shop that can do the swap.

Any input that you might have would be great. Trying to avoid 2k + that some shops have quoted us.

you could swap in a ax-15 out of a newer jeep, I hear they are a better, stronger trans.

I had my T-5 rebuilt in my '66 Mustang by Ken's Transmissions off Bell rd & Cave Creek. Did a great job on it, had no problems. My father-in-law has had several trans rebuilt by him over the years.

Another member on here had his T5 rebuilt a couple years ago, to the tune of a couple G's, and it blew up on him again within a year. X2 what Wiley said, good opportunity to upgrade to a better tranny. AX15 out of a YJ or TJ or an NV3550 are upgrades and will cost less than the rebuild of your T5. Don't know about mating / adaptability but it's definitely worth some research before you just go out and dump $2k into a T5.

Great info. Any idea how much average labor would be for a swap?

And you helped us a few years ago tackling some carb issues, appreciated the help! Got it running for a while until it went down again due to the trans.

    Re: T5 transmission replacement - Sourcing/shop questions

I am stationed out of state, and my brother in law doesn't have availability to help out either unfortunately ... If I was around town I would love to jump in and help out though!

Guess we will be looking at shops in the valley. Thanks for the recommendations!
