    Body armor

I have never bought any but this seems like a great deal??? May buy one just to have. Heard they can be beneficial if your doing other things that are risky like hiking steep trails where you may fall and bounce down etc. What about cave exploring?

You do realize the plates add considerable weight to the vest? something to think about hiking or spelunking.

Looks like it's 8 lbs per plate, so 16 lbs of steel plus the weight of the vest itself in this package.

But hey, you get "Level III Rating: AR500 Armor« body armor is Stand-Alone and Multi-Hit capable. Designed to defeat rifle threats up to 7.62x51 M80 NATO Ball (.308 Winchester) at velocities up to 2,780 feet per second and all pistol calibers."

i run soft armor in my plate carrier for taking "tactical" shooting classes. I couldn't imagine running around with all that extra weight.

Uh huh, I see what you did there!!

I think I am just going to get one to have one. It's cheap enough. The using for activities was just a conversation piece. Everyone all getting their seriousness on.

    Re: Body armor

Just did an AR500 sponsored armor carbine class. One side deal was We shot the steel armor and ceramic armor with AK, AR and a SAW. The steel armor is way more durable than ceramic. You can shoot it all day long and it won't compromise. Ceramic will degrade with multi hits. I run ceramic its lighter, but more expensive and not as durable. Steel is way heavy but will last forever, wayyy cheaper and you can handle it rough. Just need backers for them. The trend is to go minimal coverage these days to keep it light. AR500 is a great company based in AZ and they will treat you right. There are videos on you tube and independence training to show these real world tests. Can't go wrong with this company good guys

Thank you for the insight! I am still planning to buy some for the price and value.. I remember when I was pricing vests out for work 15 years ago, they were $800 for level III.

Check out Gladiator Tactical. I think their full sized plate weighs around 3 pounds. My cousin is a sales rep if anybody wants a deal
