    Mammoth Lakes, CA

I'm up in Mammoth Lakes for work, got a chance to sneak in a bike ride this morning. This place is gorgeous. Just thought I'd share.

That place is amazing. Bikes, backpacking, fishing just a cool place.

Head a little more north & check out June Lake Loop, 5 or 6 lakes to see in there. There is a pretty cool ghost town of Bodie to visit. Last time I was there 99% of the buildings were still intact. Bishop has the cool Laws train museum. Both are pretty cool. Used to live up there. Miss it, but not the Kali laws!

Drop dead gorgeous area for sure. Camping is something else though from what we observed. The campgrounds around the lakes, they pitch their tents 10 feet from each other and 20 feet from the road and call it camping...

Way too many people for this hermit.

Last night at 1:30 am I decided to go for a bike ride. Riding through this little neighborhood I came around a corner and rode up on a huge black bear. I stopped maybe 25 feet from it. Scared the crap out of me. It looked at me, snorted a bit, then went back to it's business trying to get into a dumpster.

On the one hand, yeah that's not my style of camping either. On the other... I'd rather be in a crowded campsite in a place like this than sitting at home. So at least it's something.

Piñata for bears! Those bears are so naughty! They know to chase fishermen away and take their stringer. They really like the little damn. By Lake Mary if I recall correctly. How are the lake levels? Looks low with all the reeds showing.

Yep the drought is pretty bad even up here. I guess they only got 100" of snow last year, compared to 400-500" they usually get.

Payo72 gave a good list, I'll add. Go check out Mono Lake and then there's the hot tubs out in the middle of nowhere south of hot creek.
