Hope this doesn't come off as disrespectful, and obviously wasn't at the scene, but I strongly advocate people becoming First Aid trained as well as CPR, not sure it would have made any difference, but a reminder.

Not disrespectful by any means. It surprises me that nobody takes the time to learn basic procedures when it could save your own life somebody or that of another. Granted my basic first aid is limited to what I learned in the Air Force and its by no means all inclusive. I am comfortable to say that I could perform basic life saving techniques if required though. My JOB (Jeep Out Bag) is going to be bright red with a full first aid kit inside, to include an IFAK.
For those of you who are serious about staying prepared please take a look at this article written by Air Force. It is imperative you understand whats in the manual before you need to act upon it.
