If you are going to be on state land you must have a permit or be actively hunting with a license. They have always said in the past that traversing the land is not use, such as going to BLM land.. Seems they are kinda changing their tune on that.

This permit is for hiking, biking, wheeling.

    Question regarding State Land Permits?

    It states on the form.

"An ‘Individual Permit’ allows the signatory limited privileges to use State Trust Land for some recreation. Recreation under this permit is limited to hiking, horseback riding, picnics, bicycling, photography, sightseeing,
and bird watching. Camping is restricted to no more than 14 days per year. Off-Highway Vehicular travel on State Trust Land is not permitted without proper licensing."

It mentions the things it allows, but doesn't say anything about offroading that I could see, other than you needing "proper licensing".

The question I have is what constitutes "Off-Highway proper licensing". What all do I need to be legal?

I just called them. They said your vehicle has to be registered with the DMV. I "THINK" what they are trying to imply here is that a STL permit is not a substitution for vehicle registration.

I hate asking those people questions, you never get a straight answer.

So I am to assume that the State Trust Land use permit and Arizona registration/tags is all I need?

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I've got a buddy with Game and Fish. Maybe I'll run it by him and see what shakes loose. He might not know, but maybe he can point me in a direction.

Yeah but you still have to snail-mail it. Can't do the transaction online. Or physically go down to the office.

You guys can't see all the deleted comments in this thread, but I can You could never actually obtain the permit without having to either mail the form in or physically go to the AZSLD building downtown and physically complete the process. This thread was created when the state made the application available online (and thus created the mail process), where previously the only option was to go to the AZSLD building in person.

The state trust land recreational permits can now be purchased online and printed yourself. Go here:

    http://land.az.gov/rp

I haven't actually done this myself. I only found out about it when I went to the State Land Dept. in person. Doh!
