Thread: New tow rig

You will love the 7.3. What gears you going with? I run 37s on mine and geared it to 4.88. If I had it to do over I would have done 4.56s. It winds a little tight at 75mph but I wanted to keep the transmission in 1 piece. I highly recommend the DP Tuners chip. Mine works amazing.

I've been looking into the DP tuner. Will probably go with that.

Haven't thought about gears at all yet. Will see how it does with the new bigger tires. I've actually only driven it about 5 miles so far.

35s to 37s I would go 4.56s If you have the 4.10s I wouldn't even change for 35s. If you have the 3.73s I'd gear for sure.

Does it include a backup camera app too?

Yes. Doesn't come with a camera but it has a camera input.

I have a 2001 7.3 with an 8 inch lift and 37s and 4.56 gears, 98k miles, injectors, fuel system upgrade, 38r, ww2 and a laundry list of other things that are a waste of money. I also have a dptuner. I think its a decent set up. I currently have one shifting issue, I think the tq disengages prematurely when getting on the throttle. I have been living with it.

There are dead spots with the 4 speed tranny. Sometimes I wish I had 4.10s. My rpms are high with the od off (when towing).

I wouldnt mind having a key party with the trucks just to see what differences there are and can be noticed.

I found a Banks TransCommand module under the truck today. It's unplugged, but all the wiring is there. Going to plug it in tomorrow and see what happens. Supposed to give firmer shifts I guess.

Also found that the intercooler is aftermarket. And aftermarket wastegate + lines. Methinks someone had a tune on this before I bought it.

Oh yeah limited slip too, never thought to check for that when I bought it. Nice surprise.

Rough month for this truck. Spent over $5k on maintenance issues. Normal stuff but it all came at once.

A/C went out, compressor shot metal into the system. Replaced the entire system.

Radiator started leaking, pressure tested and found at least 5 holes. Replaced radiator, overflow tank, all hoses.

Relay in gauge cluster went out that controls the stereo, interior lights, power windows. Had to replace at the dealer for $1200.

New tie rods, keyless entry system, battery cables.
