    Help needed w/home construction

Saturday night a 30 yr old eucalyptus tree fell on our house through our roof atop our bed and we woke up to water/ceiling and insulation plus a **** load of water.

Phx FD kicked kath and I out and shut the power off. They said it was unlivable.

We got our pets out Sunday.

Meeting our adjuster (driving in from OK since the storm hit this area so bad) tomorrow at 12p

New to this but he said that basically they'd cut us a check but up to us to find contractors since the job is going to be so big.

    Have pics if needed.
    Thx
    J

Wow John! Glad you guys are okay!

I do not know of any contractors, but did hear on the news last night to beware of scammer contractors; seems they always come out after big storms like this and further victimize people! So check out anyone you hire first.

    Good luck!!

X2 on being careful with the choice. Your adjuster or agent should have a list of people they have used in the past. Do not pay anyone anything till it's completed to satisfaction.

And, as others have said, if you need anything let me know.

If it doesn't have to be a licensed contractor contact metalman. he knows some people that do this kind of work.

J&K, way glad you're all right, and thanks for touching base.

Personally it doesn't seem right for an insurance company to hand you a check and cut you loose to find your own help, but fortunately I have no experience. Make sure that's clear with your adjuster, and maybe somebody can weigh in with a second opinion.

We're here to help if you need anything moved, stored, etc.
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience more often than not comes from bad judgement.

To add. When the contractor comes and they ask "how much did you get for the insurance" just tell them to have a nice day and get off your lawn. I turned away two roofing companies because they wouldn't give me an honest bid.

Yup, that's what happens with the storm chasing contractors

    Thanks everyone.

Mike, sorry I wasn't home yesterday.

Complete train wreck at this point.

Just dealing w/our adjuster. Guess we will know more tomorrow.

It was a LOT of tree. But it is almost like the house shifted.
