    cj7 steering box brace

So I bought this and I tried to install it yesterday. Got frustrated and then opened up my forehead with a box wrench (accidently) so I quit. Seems like the brace is about 1 inch to short to reach the passenger side frame rail. I have a small lift on the front. Might this be the reason? Thanks.

    Shouldn't be.

I used a stock one on my CJ and it was SOA w/SR.

    Was beer involved?

    Been there

Not as much as thinners lol.

It should fit fine, but I've been away from CJ's for years now. Were you using the bolts that came w/it?

Yep. The holes in the bracket are maybe 1/2" short of lining up with the holes in the frame. Wonder if I put it on jack stands to free up the steering if that would make a difference.

What brace is it...? I'm installing the Rugged Ridge brace (18003.10) this weekend:

I know the studs that screw into the box have bushings that are about 1/2"......

This is the brace I have. From bottom of steering box to passenger side frame.

Lift has no effect on brace (because box does not move, brace angle does not change)
link not loading, but pretty sure know the one you are referencing

Does not mount to bottom of sector shaft, but a bit above it (thereby reducing angle, reducing hypotenuse measurement)
Try mounting frame side, see where would connect to

Very slim chance they sold you brace for earlier (narrower) year)

By the way, brace is (IMHO) very good idea for all years: especially with larger tires, when turning left to right, sector shaft (vertical one that pitman arm is on) wants to sway left/right. The twisting twists the frame / sub frame (and eventually cracks)

brace triangulates / disperses stress to other frame rail

They make them for the TJ?

IF so, how does it work if you already have a PS Skid on?
