Need body shop who specializes with Jeeps, please recommend

    Hello,
I got rear ended at a red light Friday by a guy who spilled his coffee in his Excursion doing 45 mph, he swerved at the last few split seconds to the left hitting between left spare tire and smashing in left rear corner of the tub. Some crumple under driver door, but hard doors are good, all glass stayed intact and frame looks good. It did drive home ...with some wobble.

I gotta say, at the scene it looked like my Jeep was made of lead and his Ford is probably totaled. I am impressed, all those steel corners, spare tire, light guards and bullet proof currie bumper really seemed to help. My Jeep does not look like a vehicle that got hit by a full-sized suv doing 45.

I am home, bumped, bruised and whiplash issues, but I walked away.

I am hoping they do not total my Jeep out, my baby...the 2001 TJ, 134,000, 5 speed, 4.0.

What I am asking here is- If they let me get her fixed, I want it done right. Are there any body shops in the Phoenix or Tucson area (I am in Casa Grande) that you can recommend, or know that they have good experience with Jeep tubs.

If I use my insurance to file for me, they said I can choose. Not sure what options the other guys insurance will allow for me.

    Thank you

Mechanical work on a newer Jeep, yes, there is good reason to take to dealer
Body work, sorry, 16 years as insurance agent who has seen work from dozens of dealers= never
Repair shop that specializes in body repair / paint is only place to go
Some good shops= Raintree, Kustom Koachworks, Advanced, Phaze 1.

VERY important note before you think you are being "railroaded" into cheap shop: if you go to shop as advised by insurance company, the work has lifetime guarantee (id. paint peels / fades worse than non repaired area, it is re done FREE). If you go to shop of "your choice" and paint peels the next week, it is between you and that shop.

MOST important: screw the Jeep! YOU / your pain is far more important. See a doctor NOW. Waiting usually only allows for greater injury and decreases "value" of your claim. In all probability (guess from your description, pics would help), your Jeep will be a "total" loss. Clean it as if you are going to sell (including but not limited to changing the oil: good adjuster looks at EVERYTHING), as that is what you will be doing if ins company totals.

+Start compiling "comps": shop for the best / lowest price you can buy a comparable vehicle. CALL THEM, be up front, inform seller you are doing "total loss" valuation. If you give adjuster good comps (not people advertising at outrageous prices because ad is free), he/she will work with you. Feed him/her high prices and you foster adversarial relationship (bad).

I wish some one would rear end and total my jeep. +1 on forget the dealer people put crazy weight on the skill of the tech at the dealership.

Thank you for comments. I will not go to dealer, I did that 20 years ago and the dealer sent it out. It took me a few days (small town) to find my truck at a salvage yard in a carport turned into plastic paint booth. I was NOT happy.

Adding pics, you will see....it does not look like a 45 mph excursion nailed me. Before-

I love listening to people bash dealer technicians. Where do you think independent shops send jobs they can't fix? I get several cars a week at the dealer from independent shops that they can't fix or figure out.

OP I haven't needed body work on a vehicle in ages so I don't have a place to recommend. Just do your homework and make sure your happy with the work being performed.

Sorry, absolutely zero question, vehicle is total loss (minimum $12K repairs, done to manuf. specs).

Once again, first and foremost concern would be physical: get doc to prescribe phys therapist, PERIOD.
From my experience (go ahead, bash me for "knowing everything", I don't... just a LOT of experience: over $180K in last 2 years alone), no one compares to Barrows @ St. Joe (3rd st / Thomas)... worth the drive from ANYWHERE. Forget about vehicle, FIX YOURSELF or you will regret it 30 years and more from now.

    insurance companies?
    my really rough value guesses:
est from yours = $8900 (assuming value added limitations, no "value added" coverage, depends on company), $12,500 w/cov
    est from theirs = $9000- $12500)

    injury payment =
    $3000 (chiropractor)
Good phys therapy = $5000 min, $15k reasonable, $45K high, with substantial injury, policy limits (theirs + OP's UIM coverage)

Once again, it is not bright to spend money on low deductibles when same money could buy as much as $100K more Liab / UM/UIM coverage

Off the ins soap box, flame away

Very good company, but I have had Jeeps totaled for far less
