    AIC's Patriot.

I know that the MK platform is far from a favorite of those on this site, but I really enjoy mine, and have had a lot of fun with it. I'm sure people have read my random posts around the site, but figured I should put it all in one place for the curious.

Note: if you don't like my patriot, or have something negative to say, send me a PM. I'll take all criticism, but want to keep it out of this thread.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I had my patriot less than 24 hours, but wanted to take it to my favorite haunt when I had a truck: 4peaks. Didn't take any pictures, just some videos.

The performance was very acceptable to me. We took it on some side trails that my brother and I got stuck in his lifted, but 2wd cherokee. had no issues what so ever.

    Re: AIC's Patriot.

after owning it a week, I took it out on a more dificult trail than 4peaks, but still well within the limits of the patriot. Montana mountain is a very scenic drive, I recommend to anybody:

    Re: AIC's Patriot.

One of the big motivators for me getting a jeep, is where I live, we often get flooded in. Last monsoon I missed 6 total days of work because I couldn't leave my neighborhood... kinda sad and pitiful. since having the patriot, that hasn't been a problem, but keeping it clean has!

One thing I learned from the my trip to montana mountain is that the stock tires were terrible! so I did some research and found some that fit my budget and would do the job I wanted them to:

But they were a TIGHT fit...

But they do a good job:

    Re: AIC's Patriot.

When my wife was pregnant with our 2nd child, I sold my motorcycle. I wanted to start doing more family activities. My son has fallen in love with the jeep, calls it his jeep, he was the one who came with me to buy it and not my wife. but the first time I took him out was close by our house in maricopa, the day before christmas, to give my wife a chance to get ready for christmas day, and he has gone with us just about every time since.

    Re: AIC's Patriot.

That trip was fun, but I really wanted to do something more challenging, where there were people with more experience and more capabilites than myself. I planned a trip with members of this club out to box canyon:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCw1LwlITgc

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6fTnxsbIV8

My wife joked on the trip that she felt like a minow in a sea of big fish.

That was a great trip. I learned a lot, and was very greatful for the spotters who where there to help us out. I did get hung up on 3 seperate occasions, all of which could have been avoided if I had learned to be patient and wait for somebody to spot me through the obstical. I need more practice being out on the trails.

    Re: AIC's Patriot.

Then we found out we were expecting baby #3! We still want to go out, but we're going to have to take it much slower, and do more scenic roads. The last time I went out to montana mountain I went with my dad, as we were avoiding a baby shower that my wife was attending. She was sad that she missed the trip, so asked that our next trip was to this interesting trail that goes from low desert all the way up into pine forest, and then back down again. We also brought our kids with us. We normaly wouldn't have brought them on a trip that would take so much of the day, but they loved it, and really enjoyed being out with mommy and daddy, as well as meeting all the new people!

    Re: AIC's Patriot.

one thing after box canyon that I knew I was gonna need was more air under my jeep! There are not many options for lifts for patriots. Its hard being that it has full independent suspension, you have to worry about axle angles... so a little over 2" is max, but it works out well as the wife and my son can climb into the jeep and not complain about it too much! I installed the lift myself. I studdied to be a mechanic before going and living in europe for two years. while I was there i was part of a hit and run as a pedestrian, I was thrown about 40 feet and walked away a bit bruised, and with a pinched nerve in my left shoulder. I was told surgury would have a 25% chance of fixing it, 25% chance of making it worse, and 50% chance of doing nothing. so I've lived with it, and I work in computers now... I still love to work on cars, but I work slow and have to take breaks to rest my shoulder. installing the lift took me about 7 hours from start to finish, but that included a lot of breaks, such as dinner and reading my kids bed time stories... as well as some online research to make sure I was doing it right. If I were to do it again, I could easily cut that time in half.

    Lift components:

    Front strut with spacer:

Put back together with wheel spacer:

Comparison between lifted and non lifted patriots:

not a huge difference, but a stock 4x4 patriot has a little over 9" of clearance. I have 13" now. I would love to go back out to box canyon, and run it again, just to see the difference between the before and after.

    Re: AIC's Patriot.

March's trail of choice: Painted rock and Oatman trail.

The wife wanted a calm trail to take the kids on that was close to home, and so we decided to wind our way out to Gila Bend. This was a very fun trip that we did with member That_Guy. not a dificult trail at all, but you pass through farm lands, low desert, and even climb up onto mesas. it had rained the previous week, and so the trail was quite muddy! poor That_guy had his sons with him, going topless and doorless in his rubicon! they had to hose out their jeep before heading back home.

    Painted rock:

    Oatman:

(I have to say, it makes me pretty proud to have the AZVJC sticker on my jeep. I hope others notice it when we're out)

    Climbing the mesa:

NOW there you go! Good job on getting a cool trip report compiled, intergrated with a build, A chick with a huge gun on her waist, and procreating in between it all, thats awsome! I applaud you!

Will be looking forward to the trip reports on the new new adventures you have planned out.
