    Hackberry Creek

I haven't been to Hackberry Creek since I sold my TJ and have been itching to go. Since the miners graded the trail in from Magma Mine Road I decided to take the F-250 for it's maiden 4 wheeling trip. Although not really needed I put it into 4 wheel drive to check it out. I was very impressed with the low gearing in 4 lo and 1st gear while going down hill on the switch back to the green pasture area.

My wife and I hiked from the green pasture to the Devil's canyon overlook which was always my favorite spot. On the way the wild flowers were in full bloom.

I never get tired of this view. I must have a hundred photos of this area

After the overlook we decided to head down the road and follow the creek into Hackberry Canyon. I always by passed this area in the jeep. I sure was missing a beautiful part of this trail all these years. The canyon was beautiful with several pools of clear water and trickling falls.

We stopped here due to the slick rock and steep fall. Nice deep pool down below.

It is unknown how long this area will be open for the public once they get the mine operation in full swing. I'm definitely coming back for more exploring. To think all these years I just drove past most of these areas just to get to the next obstacle. Way different perspective when you are hiking! And No I'm not turning into a greeny!

Wow - It's gorgeous! I'm the furthest thing you can find from a greeny but I don't believe they have a monopoly on respecting and appreciating our environment anyway. They only think they do lol How can you not be in awe of places like that. I stop everywhere I possibly can, it's the reason I have a jeep in the first place, to be able to see these kinds of places in person. I've been thinking about heading to Hackberry for a while, your pics just sealed the deal. Thanks for posting these. My boys will love it! And we'll be swimmin in that pond...

NICe pics...just there lastweekend....seems the mining group has left the creek area alone,
for quite some time, the one "test hole" they drilled was done like 2+ yrs ago. The road off the meadow
going westerly, used to be the trail, it was bladed for that..also when you hiked over to Devils Canyon,
that cut that goes steep up the slope to left, there is one or 2 "holes" up there.
If we cross our fingers maybe it will stay left alone and the main operation will stay north up near the HWY
where it is now...lastly, on my milkcrate, that area like so many others is being used more (read litter)
please everyone, stop and pick up that can or chip bag etc.....no matter WHERE we wheel.......THX!!

They actually graded it in 2007 and there was a drill rig at the spot you are talking about that is capped now. That was the last time I was out there according to my last trail report.

When I was following closely about the mining operation out there I saw a map of where they were going to restrict public access and from what I remember it included a majority of the northwestern part of the trail and just fell short of the cattle pond area. I think it also included old chevy hill and the rock fin but not sure. We would still have access via the back way off of Hwy 177 which is a beautiful route that takes you up the mountain with views of the valley and Pickett Post Mtn on the way up.

wow i underestimated my memory....hehehehe its been since 2007..."time flys".......
I always use the route off 177 now...as you said nicer anyway, especially now that the other road is
bladed...and then typically run Powerline straight north all the way to Campground
and exit onto 60.....hehe but not for that nice truck of yours
