Headers for 76 CJ with V-8?? Help

    My buddy has a 76 CJ with a new 350 Chevy V-8 and a TH350 tranny.

Not happy with stock Chevy exhaust manifold and rest of exhaust that has glass pack style dual mufflers that are placed just right to burn your leg as you get in or out of the drivers or passenger side.

Looking to do a dual exhaust with headers.

    What are header sugestions?

If there is not a kit for the rest of the exhaust we will be looking for an exhaust shop or one of our sponsors to do the rest of the exhaust system.

    Help.

    Thanks,

    Tom

My suggestion is to retain the factory cast manifolds, and have a custom exh made for it... Headers do NOTHING to improve off-road performance other than for all out racing needs, and they cause more leaks and headaches than they are worth...

I agree, but my buddy wants headers. Insists they leak less than stock. I disagree but he like me is about 50 years old and there is no point in attempting to change his mind. The purpose of this vehicle is for hunting and using for the most part what I would consider mild trails. No real need for horsepower except when he might lose to me in a race up a sanddune.

I particularly agree with you if this was an AMC 360. No much of a flow difference between headers and stock.

For me good stock exhaust manifold with a good gasket and the black "Indian Head" snot is the way to go.

So far headers from Advanced Adaptors or Novak are about $250.

Will check out Lopers to see what they have.

4 Wheelers sells the Advance Adapters headers. They make a inside and outside frame version. They will only work if the motor was mounted in the right position. Personally I ran factory GM Corvette stainless manifolds. (NO LEAKS) and tons of flow. They have 2 1/2" dumps. run them into a single 3" pipe. That leaves you with lots of room under the Jeep.
