    Question 258 headers

Is anyone running headers on their 258? I want to make the jeep louder because I miss have a V8. I know on my old 350 I would have to tighten the header bolts about every two months. Is this an issue with the 258 as well? Are there any other down sides to having headers on the 258?

You have to tighten the bolts alot. With the stock slow flow head it doesn't do much better. It's like pissin thru a 5/8 inch hose rather than a 1/2 inch one. Noise sucks on the trails.

Noise on the trail sucks? I mean who really wants to listen to nature anyways. haha. I figure it will be good for a little more noise and maybe 1.5 horsepower. I was just wondering if anyone in the club has already done it. But from the sounds of things I will have to be the tester of this.

You would be better off spending the money on good tune work because you'll probably get more hp from that instead-

I am not looking for more horsepower. I am already pushing close to 700 horse
But seriously I am just looking for a throaty sound. I already have straight pipe to a flowmaster with no cat. It is not so loud as to annoy people. I just like what headers do for tone. plus with the 258 or any inline 6 it is not about the horse power. Torque is where it counts.

To me it sounds like your mind is made up.

It is obviously something you want to do, so do it. Thats just my $.02 of course.

If you do go ahead with it, let me know how it works out. I would love to get a tone of any kind out of mine, only way to hear mine is to put your face next to the muffler.

Yeah, makes people give you weird looks, although they do give weird looks for like 99% of the things we do to our Jeeps.

Cool, can't wait to hear about your success with this!

I've got long tubes on my 258. Sounds mean. Everyone thinks its a V8, until they see it go At any rate, At the end of January I'm swapping out my drive train for something more interesting. The headers will be for sale cheap when the time comes.
