    YJ Unlimited-stretch

So I guess I'll make a thread here about the frame and body stretch on my 94 YJ. Goal is to stretch 15in to match the tub length of a TJ Unlimited to use a factory top and gain much needed interior room.

Here are the cut lines in tape..

Frame extension plates (Thanks to Doc for letting me use his band saw!)

Donor body section, all ready cut to 15in..

    No going back now!

I think the cut turned out pretty straight!

    Here we have full seperation...

    Frame plates mocked in..

Spring mounts removed and mocked up..they actually ended up a few inches further back..

Frame plates and spring mounts burned in and shes sitting on her own weight!

Here are few weld shots, not too bad for a 25 year old Century 130 MIG welder with a sticky trigger...

    Re: YJ Unlimited-stretch

I went ahead and placed the body sections in place to get and idea how it would look.

I'm not going to piece the body back together just yet though. I need to address some serious issues first. All of my body pucks are WASTED! The ones I managed to get out (2) were totally dried out and rusted, the rest (other 2 of the rear mounts) broke off. the mount in the right rear even broke the threaded plate loose inside the body!

I'm gonna use this an opportunity to install a set of 1in lift pucks now so I can get a flat skid.

Thanks Doc! I think its gonna stall here for a while. I need to generate some funds to take care of few things while I have easy access to the rear of the frame.

Besides, I'm fricking BEAT! I did all of this by myself, starting Fri night and finished today (Sunday) about 4.

Great idea. Looking good. Are you going to leave the wheel well elongated from the outside or close it in a bit?

The body is now (or will be soon enough) the same length as an Unlimited, so the idea is to use GenRight LJ blank corners/sides and make my own wheelwells.
Then I would like to close in the gap in the front of the wheelwell and make it a storage compartment. Should be about 3 cubic feet of space there!

    More progress!!!!

I will (someday, far away, and a lonnnnnggggg time from now) link the rear of this junk so I thought now would the best I would ever have to make preparations while the frame was fully exposed. I saw the Gen-Right shock towers on another board and I thought they were pretty slick, so I thought to my self..."Self, you can make that!"

    Drivers side taking shape...

Passenger side is more done, the blue tape indicates where I will additional bracing and the cardboard is and idea for the encapsulated upper shock mount...
