    Desert Tan Paint Job

As most of you know AZ is not nice to dark colored jeeps. Pinstriping all down both sides, nicks and scratches everywhere, and impossible to keep clean. It looks ok in the pictures and from far away but once you're within 10' of the jeep it looks like crap. I'm thinking about painting it with Krylon Desert Tan like EricsXJ from Jeepforum. Personally I love the way it turned out. What do you guys think? Paint it or leave it? I would leave my wheels, bumpers, sliders, roof rack, "mesh" inside the grill, and door handles black. I would also grind off those rivets on the doors from where the side cladding was removed.

I'd just leave it like it is myself.

My old Grand Wagoneer was black. I just cleaned it often and tried to wax out the scratches after each trip I made. Granted, I didn't do any hardcore wheeling in it, but after having it for 8 years it still looked pretty decent.

I'd spend the time and money filling that front "winch" bumper! But seriously, I OD'd my Juggy a couple years ago and loved the look. I will tell you that the flat paints look like *****e every run as well...on a positive, they're pretty easy to "fix". If you do it, spend some time on prep and wet sand between coats. I did no prep or wet sand and a friend of mine did the same color with much more attention to detail....the difference was significant..02

Do what you want. But if you Krylon it. It will be harder to sell, if you need to.

In the Air Force we used to say, "If it moves salute it, if it don't paint it."

    Dang Squids gotta be different!

I like the tan but I would leave it black until it really gets messed up.

About a year or so ago, I painted my 'runner desert MARPAT, so I say go for it! I wish my JK wasn't so new, or it would already be the same color...

That digital desert camo is way cool, but the original desert camo would be way cool too. I am an old school kind of guy. It would make for a cool hunting rig too.

The other option I'm throwing around is to Line X it in desert tan. It would be much more expensive to do it that way though. I wouldn't get the flat look but it would be much more durable than the Krylon stuff. Here's a TJ that's been Line X'd a different shade of tan.

It would ruin the resale value of the GG.

I'm not worried about selling it. It's already never going to get what I've put into it so far. When I get another car it will be a trail only rig until it dies.

Then a desert camo would be cool. The Line-x ext will get pounded by the rocks. Rattle bomb would be a lot easier to touch up.

    ZJones,
Like the tan, I am planning on doing that with my XJ this fall.
Lance is correct. External Linex will get tore up. Rattle is an easy and CHEAP fix.

    WR,
How did you do the digital? That must have taken forever!
