Building my own 75M DSB HAM radio

Well I figured I would share with the group my first ever radio build. I am cheap and with 2 kids broke, and lets not even get intot he JEEP expensives. I have been doing a lot of work lately with Cave Radios. We are basiclly working on developing a radio setup that can transmit from underground (in cave) to the surface. This has been done but with LF and lower frequencies. LF radios and the license to operate themare very expensive, and who wants to take an expensive radio into a very dirty, muddy, wet enviroment? So we have been working using the HF HAM bands, and 75M seems to be working very well. We recently proved we could talk through nearly 800ft using off the shelf radios.

I was mostly the sherpa on that last trip because I don't own a radio, at about $500 for a FT817 its not going to happen. KE7HR, who is headng up the cave radio stuff, had built a couple of different 75M radios. After some research and price checking I figured I would give it a try. I am building a Wee Willy 75M DSB, a VE7GC design. http://www.qrp.pops.net/willy.asp

I am starting off with the reciever portion since this is my first homebrew project. I am building it dead bug style and I am using the KE7HR mods to power it with 12V instead of 6V. Here is what I have so far:

I am waiting on some parts to come in so i can finish the other half. Its ugly, but for about $15 I will be able to recieve 75M signals. When all is said and done I will be out about $50 and be able to work on 75M QRP.

Good luck. I look forward to hearing how this turns out and how it performs in the field test.

Took me a minute to understand "deadbug style". That looks like a fun project.

Its also called "ugly" but when you put the ICs on their backs with the pins sticking up the name just pops out.
