    2.8 litre V6 engine pictures?

I just bought a 1986 XJ Cherokee and the previous owner thought it was a good idea to take apart most everything on the motor and let it sit in his yard for 5 years before selling it to me. I have got most of it together and have it running but the vacuum hoses are giving me a problem to say the least. Does anyone have pictures or a cherokee out there with a 2.8 V6 I can take some pictures of? Or better yet park next to mine so I can look at both side by side? I know I am asking a lot for a newbie.

    didn't know V6 was an option... i thought it was the I6 4.0, or the I4 2.5

Yeppers, as Steve said, it was an option actually through '86. Was replaced by the 4.0 in '87. Was actually a GM engine, same one as used in the S10 trucks, as well as being used in some FWD applications in compact cars and the Fiero (although the Fiero was RWD, it still used a transverse mounted FWD block). If you ever look for a replacement, MAKE SURE you get one from a RWD application, otherwise the starter will be on the wrong side. Was a garbage engine from day one. A good upgrade is the 3.1 or 3.4 V6 from the Camaro/Firebird. It's pretty much a bolt in upgrade. IIRC, the 3.8 will also physically bolt up, but you have to change a lot more under the hood to make it work.

Way to circumvent having to pay to sell

I don't have one of those engines anymore (thank god! ), but I'm pretty sure I have a vacuum diagram for it somewhere from when I redid mine years ago. I could give you a hand with it too if need. I'll see what I can dig up for you here in a bit.

So... I have the cali 2.8 and I need a good diagram did anyone have it. And if your not driving up and down rocks and you can put a cam and an electric fan on a 2.8 and maybe you can DRIVE a little the thing is fine.

As for the vacuum diagram..I still can't find the files that I've got for the 2.8, but Autozone did list one on their site

Thanks guys, I have that diagram on a little sticker on the firewall its just hard to tell where everything is going. So I'm guessing no one has a 2.8 I could snap a couple picture of? If you change the motor can you still get it threw emissions?

I have one but Im up in Prescott Valley but its in a YJ now. The motor routing is still the same though.
Doing the 3.4L upgrade is the best thing you can do for a 2.8L,I did, I have to agree the 2.8 sucks. Don

    Don,
If the vaccuum lines are routed the same maybe I will swing up Monday morning and snap some pictures. I am in Anthem so the drive isn't that bad. Or my email is mantis8585@yahoo.com if you could send me some pictures. I have 80% of them hooked up but it is still running rough. Thanks, Mike
