I'm sure yours will be done before mine. Teaching myself how to weld will slow me down a bunch.

Well, today I removed the engine, tranny/t-case, all other components mounted on the frame and removed the frame from the axles.

Let me tell you, it was fun taking apart this jeep. It's going to be a lot funner putting it all back together.

Next comes degreasing and cleaning the frame and tub so I can get them to the sandblaster.

    Removing the engine.

    Engine mounted on the stand.

Next came the tranny and t-case.

    It's getting there.

Disconnected the leaf springs and removing the frame.

Stripped frame. I still need to remove the Bubba Bumper. That's going to take some careful work since it's welded to the frame.

Theres my Jeep, all in pieces! And it all still fits in the corner of my garage.

Re: My New 45 Willys MB

I finally got the bubba bumber off after hours and hours of grinding. What a job that was! That thing was made of 1/4" steel and was very heavy. After getting it off I found damage to the front frame horns. It appears the damage was done in an accident or something and the 1/4" plates that attached the bumper were also used to repair the frame in that area. So a lot more grinding is in store to remove the plates.

Today I spent the day degreasing and pressure washing the frame. It's amazing the amount of original OD paint that's still on the frame. I couldn't see any major corrosion or structural damage except for the front horns and the pintel hook V support, which should not be a huge deal since replacements are available for these two areas of the frame.

Here's some pics of the frame.

    The damage

The frame is cracked and separated from the front crossmember.

The battery tray looks pretty good for it's age.

    Pretty cool huh!
It was common practice and approved by Willys that if a vehicle did not sell in the year that it was produced that it would be re registered and sold as the next year model.

So often a 45 would be sold as a 46 by the paperwork. This happened will all Willys that did not sell in a particular year.

So you may not need to change the year of registration and sale. It may very well be a 45 originally registered as a 46 because it was sold in 46.

I kind of figured that's what happened. I had it changed to a 1945 anyway.

    Thanks for the info!

Re: My New 45 Willys MB

Today I spent cleaning the tub, tranny/t-case, axles, and engine.

The tub looks like swiss cheese.

Am I the only one who get's excited when I see original OD.

The upper hat channels look pretty good.

The rear one not so good.

    Toe board gussets.

    More of that beautiful OD!

It's amazing to see clean sheetmetal.

I removed the Bubba made fuel tank sump bottom to see the extent of the corrosion on the axe panel. This is the worst part of the whole jeep that I could see.

    Outside view of panel.

Rear axle, more OD paint exposed on diff and springs.

    Front axle.

Tranny/T-case. Looks like the T-case has been worked on or overhauled recently by the new bolts and safety wire.

    T-case tag.

Date stamp on T-90. It's going to stay for now, can't afford a new T-84.

Clean Engine, ready to disassemble outside components and paint OD. I'm not going to do a rebuild since it's running just fine with good oil pressure readings.

    Thank's Steve!

Here's what I will be looking for in parts.

MB correct oil bath air cleaner
Generator (If I decide to switch back to 6 volts)
    Regulator (6 volt)
    MB correct horn
MB correct windshield frame (I have one for a CJ2 I could trade)
MB correct front springs with driver's side torque reaction spring.
All the exterior hardware such as grab handles, rear lights, etc.
    T-84 tranny

If any of your friends have any of these items let me know.
