    My New 45 Willys MB

I've been wanting an old Willys for a while now and decided, What the Heck! You only live once! So yesterday I picked up this 1945 Willys MB. The guy I bought it from obtained the jeep from his uncle in New Mexico who passed away a few years ago. He started to restore it but had too many projects going so he decided to sell it.

It's registered as a 1946 but after researching the serial number it is definitely a 1945. It's pretty much all original except for the bumpers and the tranny, which is a T-90. His uncle also converted it to a 12 volt and put an air filter instead of the oil bath. The tub is in good condition with very little rust. The worst part is the windshield frame.

It runs great but the brakes need work and I need to replace a freeze plug on the engine block.

My intentions are to get it in good mechanical condition for now and eventually get it looking like a WWII jeep again and have fun with it. This thing is a blast to drive!

According to my research, this S/N says it was made in April 1945

What a Hoot to drive! A little scary when trying to stop. Notice how long it took me to stop. Yikes!

Real nice find. I've been wanting to pick up a MB for awhile now... I too would restore it to it's original WWII glory.

Really cool. We pulled over and looked at a flat fender that was for sale 2 days ago....It was pretty cool looking - 3 on the tree, new bestop seats in it, needed some work --- but even had the original military data plate on the dash...Wished we could have gotten it!

There are quite a few of them posted up as of today on craigslist....Ben and I also saw an AWESOME one that we got the phone number copied down for - it is a flat fender with original military data plate on the dash with new seats as I mentioned before - we won't have the money for it but if anyone wants to look at it I copied down the number: 480-994-1971 --- sorry we didn't take a picture - it was our anniversary and was worth pulling over for and walking around it drooling for 10 minutes.

I am glad someone bought it! I saw this one on Craigs and called the guy. After some research I was informed that a guy my size would not do well in an MB unless some changes were made. I know this owner stated he wanted to sell it to a guy who would restore it. He had a buyer that wanted to chop it up into a crawler but he was holding off selling it to him.

I am looking forward to your build sir. Is this something you ar egoing to do with your son or a "self" project? If it is just you, can I bring beer and a chair and watch/help out?

Yeah he told me about that guy too and he refused to sell it to him. His uncle actually stretched the seat frame for added leg room but it is still cramped.
