Why are people so &*%# stupid?

Ok, so we all know the freeways are littered with speed cameras which is total BS, but that's a debate for another time, anyway they're here so lets discuss the shear idiocy they bring out in people. I'm driving home from work today down I-10 from Chandler Blvd towards downtown Phoenix. I make the commute everyday.

Anyway, so I get on the freeway and it's no overly crowded but everyone is just creeping along I mean the first camera isn't until 40th St, we are many miles away from it, but does that matter to the idiots? Of course not. So anyway I make my way through these idiots and find culprit #1. He's got about 50 car lengths of space (not exaggerating) between him and the next car and he's going 10mph under..in the left lane. WHY?

Then we start coming up to the first camera, we have about a mile still. We are traveling at only 65mph, the exact posted speed limit. What does the idiot in front of me, culprit #2, do? Yeah you guessed it, he slams on the brakes and does a nose dive down to 10mph under. Why?

I pass him in disgust and set my cruise control to 72mph and breeze right past the cameras with no flash. Do any idiots learn from my example? Of course not. The guy behind me that slammed on his brakes is becoming smaller and smaller in my mirror. I pass another camera near 24th St still don't get flashed, but luckily I had the idiots all behind me at this point so I didn't have to slam on my brakes too this time.

Then when the speed limit gets reduced from 65mph to 55mph towards the next camera, the classic speed trap. The exact same behavior takes place again.

Ok, we all know there are speed cameras, that's covered. We've all read about them and found out they only snap photos for 11mph +. What on earth is so difficult about that concept? No one is going to get flashed for doing anything under 10mph over the limit, but yet they mash the brake pedal down with both feet out of instinct it seems. I appear to be the only person on the road that understands how to act around these things. Either I'm a frigging genius, or as I've always suspected, the average everyday person is a total idiot, and even worse, these idiots all act exactly the same and they are everywhere.

As many people as there are that do this, there would almost have to be a number of members here that act like this (although I'd like to believe there isn't). If anyone here does and has the guts to admit it, please explain it to me.

Ok, I feel better, rant off!

I do the speed limit...and I don't give a rats *** about the cameras or what you think either. You're just racing to the next stop light as far as I'm concerned. As far as people slamming the brakes when they approach them...beats the hell outta me. Kinda like when they slam the brakes when they come up on a cop giving someone else a ticket...like he's gonna drop everything and come after them.

The left lane is for those who want make time (people who know how to drive). The right lane seems to be for those who think they won't be able to breath if they are moving to fast, or those who can't stay between the lines very well. (in otherwords idiots on wheels).
I wonder if this causing accidents from people who panic and hit the breaks at the sight of a camera. Is the city at fault if these cameras do cause accidents? Shouldn't they flash a car going slower than 11 under the speed limit too? Now that's sounds about right, seems like most accidents are caused by drivers to slow on hwys, because they cause excess lane changing to get around them.
That's my story, and I'm sticking with it!

If the posted speed limit is the law...then only citing people who exceed it by 11mph or more is ******ed. By that logic...dry humping an unwilling victim should be ok...unless you actually take her clothes off and penetrate.

Driving down 10 the other night I was going about 68 in the 65 zone right before the first camera mentioned (by 40th St,), a black Charger (new style - ugh) zooms by and slams on the brakes but not in time to avoid the sensors, in fact I think the photo will probably show his brake lights on full bright Luckily I was two lanes over and there wasn't a lot of traffic, but yeah I totally understand the rant about the people who do this.

I don't understand your response. Granted I have a lead foot and get impatient even with people that go exactly the speed limit, but I wasn't posting about that. I was complaining about people doing 10mph under on the freeway, especially the left lane, and people slamming on their brakes for the cameras when they were already going too slow.

And I'm talking about the freeway, not surface streets.

So you recommend anyone doing 55.01mph or more gets a ticket? Great. What about going 54mph? Shouldn't they get ticketed too for going too slow?

Do you think only getting ticketed for going over the speed limit is OK, but going way under is cool? Do I have this right?

I passed an idiot that was causing a huge backup one day on the way to work. This idiot was towing another truck and going 30mph on the freeway, during rush hour. If I should get a ticket for going 56mph, he should have gone to prison. That was outright dangerous to everyone anywhere near that idiot. It might have even caused a wreck for all I know after I passed.

Here's one for you. The other day I was in the middle lane on I-10 around Warner. Some idiot in a SUV decides to just change lanes from the far right lane into my lane without looking. I had about 1/2 car length on him. I look over and see it, I had 3 choices. 1. Maintain my speed so as not to exceed the limit and get slammed into. 2. Slam on my brakes and get slammed into. 3. Nail it so that me and my HEMI Magnum got out of the way.

I choose #3. I guess I should have been ticketed if it was your call, but it's better than getting my car totaled and a trip to the hos****l if not killed. As far as I'm concerned, he should have gotten a ticket, but the cameras don't take pictures of idiots like that.

BTW, the rape analogy makes zero sense.

Wow...you're really serious about all this huh? I was once again being sarcastic without using the proper smiley icons...for shame. I'm not going to argue any points with you, for fear of being a victim of cyber-road rage. You seem to fit the profile. If you happen to be using the hov lane one day, come upon me doing the speed limit in said lane...I'll be sure and look out for the one finger wave from ya.

Well serious as you can be ******ing about people over the internet. I don't expect to resolve this issue here, but I'm not making this stuff up either.

I really do have a problem with dumb people on the road.

I'm sorry I missed the sarcasm, I really didn't see.
