Tell me a little bit more about your rig. You using a stock antenna or have you tried hooking it up to a mobile or base antenna to get additional gain or height? I have to hook my HT up to a raised base antenna to be able to reach Shaw Butte or Mt. Ord unless I'm outside in an ideal line to the repeater. Even then, the reception is good but my signal is so-so. I use an aftermarket dual band 19" antenna with a "tiger-tail" counterpoise and that seems to boost the signal a bit.

Let me know and I might be able to offer a couple of suggestions.

Also, where abouts are you located in the Valley? If you're right in the shadow of the repeater, you might not be able to hit it with any rig.

    Take care,...... Gary - KD7TXR

What kind of transciever do you have? Can you get to other 2m repeaters? I live about 1 mile Southwest of you, and I have no issue getting to 147.24+ with 500 mW (Low Power) from inside my house on my HT.

Can you receive the signal from either of these repeaters? If so, is your transmit frequency incorrect, or PL tone?

Just trying to see what the problem might be, you should have no issue getting to the Shaw Butte repeater. I can reach the Ord repeater, but my signal quality is not nearly as good.

my 2m HT is an older Bendix King LPH VHF that's been opened up for 2m frequencies. I think it was originally 150-174, but I'd have to dig out the spec sheet to make sure. When I first did it, it worked OK, but I didn't have a working battery so I was chained to bench top power supply. I was able to easily key up both the Shaw Butte and Sun City West repeaters from inside the house. Now I can't even receive either of them while outside.

After hooking/unhooking the HT from the supply a few times, I broke the positive terminal on the HT. Between opening it up to fix, and a few other times to check things out, I think I might have disrupted the antenna connection internally as it doesn't RX or TX for crap anymore (although it does still receive 162.55 NOAA just as well as it always did). I'm planning on digging into it here in the next few days to check it out again.
