    Re: Cheap Hydro Assist

It's a little bit older Spal fan that a friend gave me, but simular to these: http://www.spalusa.com/store/main.as...dy&c=FAMO&pg=0

Pulls a s- load of cfm. I worked the steering hard the other weekend and not one sign of whinning from the PS pump, no steering fade or anything of the sort.

The cooler is simply a univeral aux trans cooler available at any auto parts store. I had to make a few brackets to mount the cooler, but it's nothing a little porta-band, vise, hammer and paint couldn't take care of.

The nice thing with it being where it is, is it keeps out of the heat path of the radiator stack. The PS cooler gets cool air all the time, not heat soaked air from in front or behind the radiator.

awesome write up. I just ordered all the same stuff. Do you have an update on how everything is working? Anything you would do different?

It works perfectly, have not had any issues. I originally thought I might need a high flow pump (or mod the stock one) but it's been a non-issue. Stock one has been fine. Nothing I would do differently.

Cooler is in the return line between the ram and pump, mounted in front of the radiator. I'm converting to full hydro soon so will be using a new cooler, possibly one with it's own fan. Have one of those on the trans and it works awesome.

I just reread my reply and I goofed. I meant to say the cooler is in the return line between the gearbox and pump, NOT the ram! Sorry for the confusion, that's what I get for posting when tired! The ram lines go direct to the gearbox.
