I didn't mod the pump yet. It was rebuilt a few years ago by Benchworks and supposedly they tweaked it for higher flow. I figured I'd try it out first and see how it feels. I've heard some people say it's fine stock and others mod the pump.

For those interested in modifying the pump, look here:

Ok, update time. Got the tires on and took it for a spin today. All I can honestly say is wow, why didn't I do this sooner! On road, I couldn't really tell it was there other than the ram acts like a stabilizer. I don't feel any drag and the wheel seems just as responsive as before. The wheel returned to center as normal. I did not experience any slowness of the steering, even rocking from side to side.

Off road was a huge difference. I didn't run a trail but played on some rocks and I can now turn the wheel effortlessly with one finger. I believe turning on the trail will be much easier now.

It appears my pump pressure and volume is fine so I'm going to leave it as is and test it out on a few runs.

Definately worth the $150 or so spent on it. I'll report back after a few runs but I think it's going to work out great.

My bumpstops in the front are the shocks. Not ideal but it's actually been that way for a few years without probs. I was going to rig up something but it just keeps falling to bottom of the list. 35's didn't rub due to a bit of trimming, but I need to trim a bit more with the new 36's. If I'm hooking down a wash, I just crank up the RS9000's and it doesn't bottom out. Was checking it out recently again, trying to see if I can do some kind of air bump in the front.

Yeah, I saw that but it won't work for me. With 8" lift, there's too much room between the coil tower and spring pad. I'll figure something out eventually.

    Hey Gasman...

You say I can Tap my box the same way in my 82 CJ-7?

I might be buying a hydro assist with everything needed...

I tried searching online but nothing specifically for cj-7s box.

Should be exactly the same. Got to love the GM Saginaw box.... The mounting bosses might be a bit different but your box should look exactly like mine.

Got a chance to try it out on the trail today and it absolutely rocks!. Could easily turn the Swampers aired down to 5 psi in with one finger. Everything worked out great. Definately worth doing and highly recommended for turning big meats in the rocks.

It would not be street legal then
Ive done 2 of these and the second time I magnetized the tap and cleaned it out as I went. I did not take the box apart. then ran some oil through it to ,make sure it was clean. 5 years and no issues
