Thumbs down the highways are a mess

Im driving around and seeing the ***** on the highways. It is just as bad as the trails So I got to thinking and hope others would be into it I called Paige woods with the Adopt a highway to get more info on that. Anyone down with that do not know much yet but will get all the info I can. Anone have one in mind that they thinks needs the help. I think we could show everyone that the wheelers will get trash from whereever it is. these are the highways I can think of

What exactly are you asking in your poll? Which highway is the trashiest? Which highway should you adopt?

btw, which 202 is which? To me, 'the' 202 is Santan Freeway. The 'other' 202 is the one by the airport. This might be different to others depending upon where they live.

I'd try to attend a highway cleanup, but these can be dangerous and should be done with ADOT support (signs, cones, vests, bags, etc). I think seeing ADOT cleanup signs along with a line of Jeeps and an AZVJC banner would go a long way.

I think your idea is good Daniel and I also must agree with K7mto on the fact that we will need ADOT assistance. I had a close call a week or so back. Was driving home from work when I had to give it a quick hard left and then back right in order to dodge what looked to be an 8' or 10' ladder in the middle of the 101 freeway west bound. Luckely I was driving my pickup. Idont think I could have pulled off that manuver in the Jeep w/o rolling. That might have been messy. Keep me posted with the detailes. Im game!

I too think it is a good idea and second the safety aspect. What type of committment is expected from the club? How long does the adoption last; forever, year-to-year?

I believe, but not sure that the high traffic highways and loops you can ADOPT but you actually have to hire a licensed company to do the work. You get to have your name or the club name on the adopt a highway sign but that's it.

The local Radio club I used to belong to adopted a mile on the state route
260 up here and we cleaned it when it looked like it needed cleaning. Our
mile was 301 and I think you can get a sign made and coordinate with ADOT
for bags and a pickup of same with ADOT. I think you have to renew every
few years. We usually did a cleanup after Memorial Day and Labor Day.

You might be better off adopting a State route with one lane each way.
