I was hired to make sweeping changes, fix the process and increase the workforce by about 20 employees. Early into my fourth day (today) the owners decided that my entire shift should be eliminated. This will not likely change my life significantly but I had 12 employees that had been there a he!! of a lot longer than four days that will be very effected.
Aerospace is often cruel.

As long as you get paid, who cares....
Friend of mine was Senior VP of a large high-end dept store here in the US. He got hired away by the competion and signed a 3 year contract with some major perf bonuses. He left where he was using his accumlated vacation time and some time inbetween to sell his house and move to another city etc, etc. Well everything went well untill he got a call on the way to NYC from Dallas where his new job was located. The company had been bought and his services were no longer needed. He only had a few days days to go before reaching NYC and he said he would settle with them when he arrived.
He walked in and said you have two choices settle with me today or settle with my lawyer tomorrow. He had them as he didn't know the company was in the process of being sold, he had got rid of his house and a truck with all his belongings was to arrive in a few days in NYC. He was going back to Dallas.
They chose to settle with him on the spot. He walked out the door that afternoon with a check for...$2 Million bucks AFTER taxes. He came back to Dallas, put the money in a money market account and retired at age 52 to over a $100k + per year for the rest of his life. Sadly he only plays golf six days a week.

Not sure, but he told me he needed a day off. Golf, nut for sure, has first Tee time of the day, every day and plays 2 rounds of 18 holes, mostly alone, yes he is a little obsessive.

Well, if makes you feel any better, my Dad has you beat.
He was hired and set to start on Monday. He shows up and they give him the H.R. whirlwind paper work and review, then he is off for the grand tour and dog 'n pony show. Ya know, best bathrooms, the lucky copy machine, yady yady yah. So, Tueday, around 11 am, he is in his office area chatting with the locals and when someone from H.R. shows up and asks for him.
"Are you John Kanicsar?"
"Yes I am as a matter of fact."
"Im Whoever from H.R., could you please come with me?"
"OK."
Get to HR.
"Well, your job was eliminated on Thursday, after your postion was approved on Monday last week. Techincally, you werent supposed to get hired. We tried finding you yesterday, but we couldnt find you."
"So , does this mean I should call my freind for a afternoon Tee time?"
"Well, I guess so"
Sure enough, got a day and half paycheck. Yup, AeroSpace....

My wife was hired as a travel agent on a Friday and was told to show up for her first day of work on Monday.Gets there Monday and the place is closed with all the employees standing outside.Apparently the owners were skimming money from the airlines and got caught. Don
