Ok guys, I had a Tonsillectomy Oct.-11 and I'm board out my mind :rolleyes:
and the computer is gonna keep me out of the shop.
The tools that are needed for a STOUT set of XJ Rock Rails are;
1) Chop Saw or something to cut the steel with,
2) Welder, doesnt need to be anything fancy. I built my first set with a Craftsman 110 mig and flux-core wire.
3) Drill
4) a grinder would be nice but its not needed.
Lets get started,
I used some 3x3x 3/16" sqaure stock for the slider piece.
Whatever size you use, just make sure its at least 3/16" thick
All the steel I used was in the scrap pile out in the weather, but it cleans up just fine
I placed them on jack stands and worked my way inward

The two pieces of angle iron I cut mount to the Uni-Body, they will need to be pre-drilled for self-tappers. The little piece will be a tab for bolting to the leaf spring mount.

For the two pieces of steel that attach the Angle iron to the square slider, I used 2x2x 3/16", just cut to your desired size.

This is the trick to STOUT,
A) min. 3/16" thick material
B) The tab at the rear, it attaches to the leaf spring mount with a nut & bolt.
C) this is important, use a piece of 1x1x 3/16" square stock to run the length of the XJ pinch seam, you will need to bolt it through the pinch-seam lip in 3 to 5 locations. When landing on the slider, this peice of 1x1 will distribute the load along the entire pinch-seam, this is where most of the strength will be and also why self-tappers are the min. needed at the frame.
