Ross,
I would love to tag along if it happens to be the
following weekend or later since I've already planned
to go skiing at Sunrise this coming weekend.
Hopefully, this will build up my level of confidency
before I will run this trail with my own rig.

I have seen a ZJ like that it Tucson....shameful. Is even four
wheel drive.
Probably drags on a speed bump. Couldn't tell if he has skid
plates on it, if he doesn't, I bet he wishes he did.

Hey, you did great on Axel Alley. I would not have thought that ZJ would do
so well. I will look at my calendar and see which weekends look the best.
I have taken a weekend off, now I am ready to go break something :-)

Subject: Suggested TJ Lift and SYE?

I know this has probably been covered many times, but here's the questions
again...

Looking for a suspension lift for a '01 TJ. I want to run 33's. This is a
daily driver, so highway handling must be good, but pretty decent off-road
as well. I won't be doing any of the tougher trails, perhaps a 3.5 trail as
the most difficult.

I'm leaning towards the Rubicon Express 3" Superflex kit, and an adjustable
track bar. But the 3" TeraFlex kit and adjustable trackbar is still an
option. I wanted to hear your opinions before I decide. Thoughts?

For now, I hope to get away with just lowering the transfer case (or not)
for a couple months. Once I replenish my pocket book, I'm thinking of a JB
SYE and CV shaft. Longer term, I may go with a TeraLow 4:1. Any problems
with the JB SYE and TeraLow together? Other suggestions in this area? (Atlas
is probably overkill for me)

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!

Subject: [TR] Trip Report - Terminator (Upper) - Saturday, January 27, 2001

Hello All,

This is an automated message from the website, please do not reply to it!

Rick Norman lead a trail run Saturday, January 27, 2001 across Terminator (Upper)

Wow, what a day! Rain, rain and more rain (and snow). Are we in Arizona?? 5 Jeeps met at the Table Mesa exit. Myself and co-pilot Jake (XJ), Randy D. (YJ), James T. (TJ), Todd (TJ), and Jim F (stock YJ). With snow on the hills above Table Mesa Rd, and rain on our windshields, we set out for Upper Terminator.
Once at the first obstacle, we found there was just enough water to make things interesting, but not too much, so we pressed on. Upper Terminator is made up of one waterfall after another, with plenty of big rocks in between. Most of the waterfalls are of the 2-3 foot variety, but with 2 feet of water in front of them, they are much more intimidating.
The run was very uneventful, and with everyone making it look easy, we found ourselves at the last obstacle at around 12:00 pm. The only damage sustained was a broken shock bar pin and a couple mangled side steps on a TJ (he didn't need those anyway).
Because it was early, we decided to continue on past the first turnout, and run the "upper" section of upper terminator. There are a few pretty large waterfalls, but we all made it through no problem.
After getting back to the road, we decided to take a look at Predator. But with all of us soaked to the bone (except Jim), and none of us prepared for body damage, we headed back to air up and get some beer and food in New River.
That never happened. We came upon a guy standing on the side of the road, soaking wet and muddy. He said he was stuck down by the river in his ford truck. We ended up giving him a ride to his truck, and tried unsucessfully, to pull him from the mud. There was no way we were getting him out. The mud had made our tires like racing slicks. From down the river came a tow truck (the guy's wife must have known we wouldnt get him out and called for help), but he got stuck before he could make it to us. While waiting for him to get unstuck, we watched 3 or 4 others (chevys, fords, nissans, and toyotas) get stuck. You just gotta love driving a Jeep!! They finally got the winch hooked up the the stuck ford, but after breaking a chain and Jim's strap, we decided to get the heck outta there. It didnt look too good for the guy. I later found out that they did indeed get him out.
Once back to the highway, we decided just to head home to our nice hot showers. What a day! I cant wait for the next one..........

Larry,

What you are suggesting to run 33" tires should work fine. Both Tera and RE
make good lifts, along with a few others that are not quite as popular.
With the addition of a Tera 4:1 you certainly will be able to handle more
than a 3.5 type trail <grin> Maybe you need to plan for 35" tires? LOL!

These bumpers wrap around the back with corner shields and appear to be
really well made (it shows in the price $389). They are fabbed out of 3/16
not 1/8 like most so they should be pretty indestructible. Anybody have
these or know someone who does? I need a rear bumper but these are close to
Road Armour in price.

Both lifts are good. I've got the Tera 3" and it cleared my 33s pretty well.

"I won't be doing any of the tougher trails, perhaps a 3.5 trail as the most
difficult" - Famous last words :-) (sounds like an echo of me a few
months ago)

As far as the JB and Teralow 4 to 1, I have the Tera SYA (same as the JB)
and the 4 to 1 and there are no problems using the two together. In fact,
although its not completely necessary, I'd recommend you get the JB SYE if
you are going to do the Teralow since the JB uses a thicker and stronger
output shaft.

Just my opinions,

Chris

I agree with Joe. I've bought a couple different Steelwhore products and was not satisfied with any of them. Nothing I bought cost more than $25. I'd hate to see you waste more than $1k on a top from them. Everything they make either rusts out the first time water hits it, or it falls apart faster than a clump of mud under the Jeep once its in the garage.

Hi George,

I have purchased ONE product from Steel Horse... just one.
A locking hood-latch kit.

driving down a rough dirt road... I notice that my hood is moving around. I
stop and find that the catches on the locks had failed. I pushed them down
and they clicked into place... 10 minutes later, they unlatch again.

When I got home, I took them off and threw them in the wasted money parts
bin (I have some warn fender flares in there too!).

I wouldn't purchase anything from steel horse again. Ever.

I would highly recommend that you not take the chance... find another
supplier. Bestop? Factory top? Anything but steel horse.

Rick,

If you want wrap around protection, check out the bumpers from OR Fab. These are not your normal tubular bumpers. Talk with Mark and Wayne and check them out. If I hadn't already had my Bulletproof bumper when I met these guys, I would have gotten one of theirs first. And they do come powdercoated.
