Niece job on the custom bracket. Is that compressor self lubricated or do
you have some type of oiler for it.

I know I read on off-road.com in the Jeep tech section that the TJ's don't
have the reverse cut Dana 30 and also suffer from some loss of clearence
because of it. Also the reverse cut was said to be stronger. They had
pictures and you could tell the standard Dana 30 by the leangthy flat
bottom? of it.

generally pretty poor.

Well, first of all, Raw Deal is not rated 2+. Somebody made a mistake
in posting that rating. It's normally rated a 3 to 3.5 and that doesn't
apply to the upper end. The upper end use to be rated a 4 to 4.5 but
I think it's a bit easier these days because parts of it have been broken
down. You do have to remember that trail ratings are determined by the
most difficult part of the trail.

As was already stated, lower Raw Deal offers multiple lines so you can
determine the difficulty level.

In general, I consider Upper Terminator to be more difficult than Raw Deal.

Pete,

All YJ's had a reverse-cut 30 in front while all TJ's have a standard
cut 30. You can use either. The reverse-cut 30 has a few advantages
though. First, the reverse-cut ring and pinion are stronger because
force is applied to the drive side of the gear teeth instead of the coast
side. Second, the high pinion of the reverse-cut 30 keeps you driveshaft
up away from rocks more. Finally, the high pinion also helps with
driveline angles.

If you want a reverse-cut 44 for your TJ, you will need to look for
the late 70's Ford trucks I believe. And these will be full width
so you'll need to have the axle shortened if you go with one of
these (assuming you stay with stock width).

All,

I just wanted to clarify some things here. I added "Areas" to the
AzVJC trails section so that if someone wanted to lead a run in that
area, but didn't know exactly which trail they wanted to run (as in
the case of the run in question), or for a large group with multiple
runs in the area (as in the case of the Christmas Party and T-Shirt
runs).

Because of this, the areas are rated the same as the lowest rated
trail in the area. There are more miles of trail rated around 2.0,
2.5 and 3.0 in the Table Mesa Area than there are of 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5
trails.

The trails that were actually run were Lower Raw Deal (3.5+) and
Upper Raw Deal (4.0+)

The key word to look for here is "Area." I have also added "Florence
Junction Area" and will likely be adding other areas as well.

Hope this helps,

- Mike

And don't forget, most of those magazine articles are biased. They are not
going to write a bad report on someone that advertises with them.
Steel Horse has a bad reputation for putting out cheap (fall apart and rust
cheap) products.

No personal experience with that particular product though.

George,

Although I don't have any SteelHorse products, everyone I have talked to
about them usually spit on the ground right after saying the SteelHorse
name. I can say (I've seen it) that anything metal product they make will
rust faster than an old nail laying in the bottom of the outhouse.

In AZ it is probably not so bad, but Jeepers just don't like the poor
quality that SteelHorse has come to represent over the years. Maybe there
hard top is better? I don't know....but they do have a track record that is
NOT impressive.

Hi George,

I have purchased ONE product from Steel Horse... just one.
A locking hood-latch kit.

driving down a rough dirt road... I notice that my hood is moving around. I
stop and find that the catches on the locks had failed. I pushed them down
and they clicked into place... 10 minutes later, they unlatch again.

When I got home, I took them off and threw them in the wasted money parts
bin (I have some warn fender flares in there too!).

I wouldn't purchase anything from steel horse again. Ever.

I would highly recommend that you not take the chance... find another
supplier. Bestop? Factory top? Anything but steel horse.

That frame is really sweet. I got a chance to see it on Sat. The engine
and tranny were in, and Jim was framing up some beefy radiator supports.
The springover on it is done with Wragler springs. And that steering box
mount is the beefiest bar none that I have ever seen.

I've heard good things about these tops:

I don't actually know anyone that has one, though, so...

I've heard bad things about the Steel Horse Targa Top. Specifically,
about parts breaking, and the top leaking.
