Will the mood of this trail video idea change if we did
predator....
raw deal....
ruler.... ?????????
these aren't extremely gnarly trails but they might make for decent video.
I would still like to showcase the local jeepers(all of you) as best as possible, and I'm hoping for a happy medium, a good video/not so much damage:rolleyes:

upper raw deal is filmworthy and there is no legal exit so you have to run it backwards to get out.
I think you can get some good footage on these trails.

No matter what trails you pick the people running it will make or break it. Looks like a good bunch listed, and with the trails listed I would love to be there. However I will be out of town that weekend, I was hoping it was the first weekend. If anything changes I will let you know. I will be flying back in on the 12th. Ruler is a cake walk with some skills. You need a minimum of 35" tires, 2 lockers, lots of underbelly protection and some chromolly shafts. Body damage isn't much of an issue on this trail. It's more about having a light foot, good lines and a rig that is well maintained. Rio and I ran this trail in record time. I was locked and on 37's with a Dana 30 up front! Rio had his superflexy machine on 35's. The boulders are big and you will get wedged or hung up on this trail. It's non-stop fun. Bring spare parts! ;)

I agree that 33's can make it through and I wasn't trying to exclude others in a rude manner. The point is that the trail rating system is a good guideline and should be followed. Taking under-equipped vehicles on more difficult trails leads to breakage, fluid spillage, holding up other wheelers (trail etiquette) and rock stacking,etc..... You may make it through unscathed on 33's and you may not. I've been on a number of trips where less equipped rigs tried to run the harder trails. It turns into a winchfest, wrenching party and all around disappointing experience.
Again; I'm not a 4x4 snob by any means and those who've wheeled with me know it. If this trip is to include everyone, then they need to be trails rated for everyone. JMHO ;)

I didn't take it as being excluded. :D You are exactly right. It would do nothing but hold up the bigger rigs. I killed my muffler(had to cut it off at home), tweeked out my steering(still ain't the same) and it took forever to do the upper part. Was hella fun though. If anything i do have a good camera that takes high quality video so i could always walk and film it all. Either way would be a blast.

Now we are talking... I am getting reved up for this one... Lower Raw Deal will pretty much be a cake walk but we can do upper and choose the easy medium or hard line.
This is what the hard line on upper Raw Deal looks like.
That is up the middle, right? Last time I was out there the right side was very easy, the left somewhat harder than the right but right up the middle looked the toughest. I think the picture you are showing is the smae place as the ones below, but unstacked and devoid of the rocks. Maybe it is a different spot, not sure. The pictures never look as nasty as the thing is up close and personal. That first picture where I am standing in the hole has eye level below my front bumper which would put it at probably over 6 feet.
Getting ready to drop into the hole. The theory at the time was to set up to keep three wheels on the ground at all times but not drop in too early. Dropping in too early means getting wedged. Driver front needs to stay as high as possible until passenger rear is ready to drop in, then drop both in at same time.
http://members.cox.net/xfallen/URD02.jpg
From above after dropping the front into the hole.
http://members.cox.net/xfallen/URD01.jpg
Same place but from the rear to show that front and rear are getting close to fully stuffed but still some room. Rear is about to drop in. Need to drop front in at same time in order to keep three wheels on terra firma.
http://members.cox.net/xfallen/URD03.jpg
How about that. All four wheels on firm ground. didn't get wedged. Managed to get out the other side. Tight squeeze getting in there without mashing anything. Came away with a 2 inch crease though since the drop for the rear passenger wheel is straight down.
http://members.cox.net/xfallen/URD04.jpg
I hesitate to admit this because I can hear the preaching now. ;) It is well undertsood, I know the drill, I do not recommend people go wheelin' alone...and keep in mind I am an adult... :p (just don't advertise the fact)...I was alone, self-spotting, 33s, open diffs. I had a spare in the back, jack, air, tools, water, fuel, food, drink, radios, and other items. I don't suggest people take this lightly. Stuff breaks even just driving down the road so...no...I won't do this again (and tell you about it:D ).
No, I don't do that very often and in fact rarely. Yes, I am pushing my luck when I choose to go alone on non-trivial trails. But, seriously folks, these trails are not that bad. Really they are not. I did the waterfall at the end of Upper Raw Deal on a different trip when I was with people because doing it solo would have been just too risky.
Now, Anaconda is a more serious (serious meaning fun) venture and worthy of taping. :D If we get more toward that end of the spectrum again, I'd be in too.

I have to agree with your decision; Nick. It takes big money and a large customer base to sell this right. If I may make a suggestion; why not try a calendar of AZ trails? I've seen this concept work in the past and if we get some of our very own female Jeepers to do tasteful poses; I think you'd have a winner. Just ask Joe West about his experience! :D Most Jeepers already have the quality digital photos for such a project except for the female poses. :D ;)

I ran URD last May I think..maybe June...at that time you could go to the top of the waterfall but couldn't go sany further. There would be room for maybe two rigs to make the trail at a time due to having to turn around carefully then come back down the waterfall.
Are you saying tyou can't even get to the waterfall now? That was the part that miade it fun. :(
Bummer.
Yes, it is interesting to see how the trails change with time. People stacking, wearing down and the weather doing its thing all make things change.
Last year the entrance to Twisted was massive. This year the top of the gatekeepr entry point is maybe 6 feet tall. The base is all filled in with sand and has changed it dramatically.

TM area:
Annihilator
Anaconda
Collateral Damage
Predator
WT area:

FJ area:
Upper Ajax
Axle Alley
Highway to Hell
Lower or Upper Woodpecker
I'm will run with "Oldschool" as his spotter or trail fix hand, and I'll bring my Sony Vid. with Tripod and remote.
EDIT, And who says we have to run all, or run them in one weekend. Its not a marathon, its a Video.

Here is upper raw deal when my rig was mostly still in tact. Upper can still be run and there is room for quite a few rigs at the top. There is no legal way out, so it is an in and out run.

I would love to.
Problem is, as of now my XJ is my only driver to work :( (The Turbo Desiel is Byby). I'm afraid the busting that uni-body AGAIN. I broke the power steering box off the sub-frame so I plated it with 3/8" AR. Then I ran Scorpion and broke the sub-frame at the track bar bracket  . The A & B pillars are split apart because I dumped it on the drivers side and NEVER CAGED IT . When I hit the gas, the door jam moves a 1/2" away from the door  I'm just not sure that my XJ would handle all the trails and still make it to work.
Like Flexy  Joe once said, "SLOWLY TAREING ITSELF APART" :D
I may run 1 or 2, but thats it.
Okay hows about:
Saturday:
Anaconda
Predator
Ruler
Danno, I know its not up to me but, I think one area should be run at a time. Thats alot of wash and Highway to to cover in one day. Unless you would like to make it a marathon.

Meet at Table Mesa at 7:30 AM... At the airdown spot.
1st Trail... Predator
2nd Trail... Anaconda
Once we have run these two trails we can decide as a group whether we want to head down to White Tanks to run Ruler or run another Table Mesa trail.
So... Who's in?
I will post the run on the Old Site for signups.

does everyone understand that the film crew I've hired will not be their and this will only be considered another club run?

Nick, we all understand. We just figure that since it was planned we might as well go ahead and wheel anyhow... we'll all just bring out own vid cameras and have a cheezy makeshift vid : )
Again, even though it did not work out... thank you for going through the hassles and at least making the effort!

Nick,
My intention was not to take over the video run. I few weeks ago when I thought we were still on I made arrangements to clear this weekend so I could participate and make plans to get the Jeep ready. Now that I have that weekend clear I figured it would be fun to do a trail run anyway even though the Professional Production Video had been postponed.
In the spirit of the original purpose of the run, I figured that we could invite all participants to bring their video cameras to take some amateur video that we might be able to assemble into a fun video for the participants.
I figured that I would just capitalize off of the fact that we already had the date picked, the trails somewhat chosen and a group of folks that were wanting to go wheeling.

thats fine, it's just that I killed this thread earlier but it's still going
I just don't want the misconception that myself or the film crew will be their. I think it would be nice to re-thread under posted trips/azvjc as a run so this thread will be killed completely
I still am doing the video but on a more private note, so that I can run the trails that I want to run w/ a group that I want to run w/ which you are personally invited to
I just don't want this thread to get out of control w/ the assumption of the original poster and post. thats all
