I am up in Moab leading a group down from the Golden Crack trail. Its getting late and I know from experience that we have a lot of driving left that we need to get done before the sun sets on us. I have come down this same trail at night and it at least doubles the time it take to get back to the main road.

I have got a little be further ahead and have lost sight of them in the rear view mirror. About that time I come to a short ledge about 30” high. As I am going down the ledge I stop since my Jeep is pointed slightly to the left I think I can lean out and see them coming. I don’t see them so I move forward some while turning a bit more to the left. I have gone down about as far as I think I go with out dropping below the view line. Thinking I can just lean out a bit further I do so, then a bit more and its then I feel the Jeep begin to ever so slowly move. I sit back up and everything is ok, so I lean back out, again it starts to move, very slowly. But now sitting back up doesn’t stop it. It moves slower than my hand on Suzy Creamcheeses leg on our first date and ever so gently lays itself down on the trail, in the middle of the ledge which was what I had in mind for her.

I slide out from under it between the ledge and the windshield and wait for the rest of the group. Neither myself or my Jeep is hurt with the exception of powder coat rubbed off my rocker guard. They arrive and lend a hand in righting the Jeep. We all laugh and continue on just barely getting to the main road before the sun sits on us.

They are amazed that the entire weight of the Jeep can rest on the rocker guard and not crush it. My thanks to Scott at Diamond Off Road for building one hellva set of rocker guards... http://www.diamondoffroad.com/home

Tsk, tsk, tsk. That was the best story you could come up with? How about: "I HAD to check out my rocker guard strength" or "I was using the Jeep to squash a dangerous poison spider that tried to attack me..."

:D

I guess I should have thought of that, but I was so blown away by the fact that I could just lean out and lay the Jeep over that I forgot about that dangerous spider that was lurking and my testing procedure for the rocker gaurds...

So Don, let me completely understand this.....the picture below is your TJ, right? And you are from Texas, right?

OK...well, I would like you to meet Donnie, the owner of this TJ. Donnie ran with our group this spring at the 5th Annual JeepsUnlimited Run. Donnie is from Texas too.

Do you happen to notice anything interesting about the two pics?

Edit: That is an interesting place to flop as it seems to do virtually no damage to the vehicle. Donnie scuffed a spot the size of a half dollar on his soft top and got a little spot the size of his thumbnail on the body. Had it not been for those two, you never would have known he laid it over.

Totally amazing that two guys from Texas, running the rather long Golden Spike Trail, can somehow manage to flop off of the exact same ledge. I just don't believe it! :D

Do all you folks from Texas have this kind of stability problem? We gave Donnie so much grief for his flop.....but now I feel pretty bad about it. Obviously, it simply sucks up folks from Texas and spits them out on their side. ;)

Now I gotta think of a good name for this ledge....

hmmmmm......................

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....................

How about Flat Lander Flop? :p

How about Texas Teeter :D

I've got family in Texas, so I'd better watch my step when I run it.

I know that spot very well.....the airborne exit at the top of the Wedgie! We had a YJ driver that was within an inch of putting his over onto its side.
