He called me looking for my old tail shaft housing that you remove when doing the SYE. I don't have it any longer, it probably got chucked when we did the conversion.

I told him I'd post up here for him. If anyone still has that piece, contact Geno (Triple-XJ), he really needs one.

Hey Jamie, Thanks for the 231 Main Shaft and Drive line I snagged back when we did your likt and SYE. Looks like I will be using BOTH  After getting back from blcalc's and replacing the tail housing, I found the Main Shaft to be bent. :(

What sounded like a great deal from a Local AZVJC Member is turning out to be not such a great deal
Lets see, for a Engine/trans/T-case combo with 56,000mi this thing sure needs alot of work.

1) all three bolts holding the Motor Mount to the block were broke off and JB weld was holding the thing together

3) Broken Tranny Dipstick

2)Exaust Manifold is cracked

3)Broken T-case tail housing and bent Main Shaft

4)It has good engine compression but based on the way things are going this thing better not have a ROD KNOCK  (knock on wood)
I guess It's my fault because I didnt check all this stuff, the least he could have done is POINTED it OUT

Thanks for letting me vent some :)

Just keep it away from the Desert springs "church" (Tatum south of Bell) or they will want to take baseball bats to it:eek:

On the other hand there might still be some good stuff left (after the
spoiled ignorant mommy and daddy and this church tought them if it aint shiny and new you should destroy it instead of fixing it or letting someone who appreciates it have or make better use of it brats do their best to show the community that their "junk" is too good for anyone else).

Yes that was reference to "rejoice in destruction" thread
Ok, off the soap box:D

PS while in AK I used an exhaust repair kit (think was from NAPA) to repair a manifold crack almost identical to those on 4.0 manifolds. The kit used a copper mesh (wrapped around cracked area) then aluminum backed fiberglass insulation with high temp glue/bonding agent then another layler of mesh then wrapped twice by high lead content strap held together by 5/16 bolts.
Worked awsom for several months, will soon be doing same to Jeep manifold.
Will keep posted.

PPS.... where do I find the trunk (to keep my junk) on my XJ?

Geno, sorry to hear that but I'm glad my backup can help you out. Why don't you drop me a PM and let me know who you got the stuff from so I know not to deal with them myself.

I have a shaft from a 231J if that's what you need.

I also have the planetaries in the case from the 231 if you want to make a crawl box. :D

PM if interested.

Thaks Barry, but I got it.

I just hate doing things twice, and I thought it was so close to running.
Oh well, at least I enjoy working on my Jeep.

As for the person I bought the 97TJ drive-train from,
He is not an "Active Member of the AZVJC", I think he signed up to sell the engine combo.
I trusted him because one of his close family members is a well known and respected AZVJC'er. I contacted the person I bought it off of and wanted the real skinny before I dumped all my time into it, the responce I got was, "Well I actually bought it from a member in Tucson and I lost his name and number" hmm, OK

I think this is all thats wrong with the Combo, but I will know for shure soon.

not sure if you got the manifold crack fixed but bring it by my place if not, i'll weld it up... (weld will be ugly because my welder...or I suck) but it won't leak anymore.
