If you have a spring under Jeep use a the following tactic:

Place jack stands under the frame first. Then use a floor jack under the leafspring right next to the axle tube, unbolt the u-bolt, then lower the jack to release the tension. This method works great and is much safer than trying to lift the jeep that high. You can install springs in the exact same manner by jacking the spring up until it meets the axle. If you use two floorjacks you can move the axle around with the tires on to line them up.

I like to use a 48" high lift to jack mine up. If the 60" jack is too short you must have the tallest Jeep in Arizona :)

I bought some big heavy duty truck jack stands. They are quite a bit taller than the normal jackstands at the auto stores.

I guess part of the question was the warranty and how it may be
affected by a cat back system, if at all. The cat should be covered.
I mean if nothing else I could slap back on the old system, I saved
it. It was a pain, I had to lift the Jeep high and disconnect the
shock. Otherwise I would have had to cut it off.
TIA.

First off, thanks to everyone who replied about axel
upgrades that I posted.
Now another question. 90 Wrangler, 258 engine, stock
carb. I want to upgrade the carb and was wondering from
past experiences which one is better the Webber or the
Motorcraft 2100 or 2150. What year, make, and models, and
engine sizes had the Motorcraft carbs.

Thanks,

Tom,

If you're disappointed in clubs there, check out the Jeep forums at www.jeepsunlimited.com

There are alot of great people and informal runs are often put together from all parts of the country. You might even be able to round up enough interest to set up an Unclub in your area :)

Well all, I'm happy to say that after 2 days worth of "messin' with
it" I finally got the Challenger motor mounts to fit. Needless to
say (at least in my case), the motor mounts DO NOT fit 100% perfect
the 1st time on a 4CYL (2000 model in my case) TJ. Basically, I had
to cut half of the urathane rubber of each side for it to fit, but
when that was good, it fit like a glove. Doing the 1" Teraflex body
lift at the same time, everything lined up perfectly, no radiator
adjustment or anything. I did have to remove the alternator to get
one of the bolts through the engine mount, but no biggie. Only thing
that had to come off was the hood holder thingy that you can use to
support the hood (it was vibrating to badly). Also, the transfer
case IS back to orginal height, with no spacers, and I still have
zero driveline vibes, with a 3" Teraflex lift.

BTW, I am NOT in anyway badmouthing Challenger, the mounts are very
stout, and they do state that they are only for the 6CYL so I took it
upon myself to make them fit.

Few words of advice for anyone looking to do it:
Get 2 jacks, it just makes positioning the motor/tranny/transfer case
(and skid plate in certain instances) a LOT easier.
Get a friend or 2, this isn't the easiest job to do by yourself.
Have the right size tools before starting (duh) and having about 1
1/2 feet of rachet extensions is very helpful.

I did the body lift first, so not sure if that helped, but it didn't
hamper anything.

As usual, your milage may very.
Thanks to everyone for their answers to my previous questions, as
usual what I did was what ya'll said it would do.

And everyone told me I was crazy when my mm bolt wouldn't come out because of the alternator. Not wanting to remove the alt., I decided to cut the bolt off, not realizing it was a "special" Chrysler bolt that only a dealer would have. Cost me $7 to replace that damn bolt. Live and learn.

FWIW, I also got the Challenger mounts, but for a YJ with a 6. Mine went in fine once I figured out what the hell I was doing.

Here is a web site with some link covering SOA stuff:

http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/Susp.html

About half way down the page there are 4 articles on SOA.

I've also did the one on my '83 CJ7 and would be more than willing to
answer questions that you might have. Just remember, it's simple to do
the modifications, but difficult to really fine tune it to get it all
"playing" good together.

Enjoy...............

Subject: Toyboxoffroad comments

I'm in the middle of ordering some upgrades for my TJ.

I just wanted to pass along a big THANK YOU to Toyboxoffroad for working
with me in getting the parts I'm looking for, at the best price. For one
item, it was suggested that I try another company in town because I could
probably do better with them. Now that is pretty straight up in my book.
(I didn't....I bought it from Toybox anyway).

Daemon (gosh, I hoped I got the name right...I'm so bad with them) spent a
good amount of time on the phone with me yesterday....probably more than I
deserved! :)

In light of so many companies not seeming to care about customer service, I
just wanted to say that Toyboxoffroad has not forgot what it is all about.
Nice job!

Thanks again!
