I have a set of the Daystar 1" Mounts, which are more or less
identical to the Challenger ones, which are more or less identical to
every other motor mount out there. I have a 97 TJ, 4 cylinder.

Yep. I spent a LOT of time and energy trying to get the engine lined
up.. keep the mounts loose as you try to align the engine. I ended
up using a jack under the engine and having a neighbor pry the
opposite side of the engine to get everything to line up. The motor
kept rotating as I lifted or lowered it, so the pry bar was necessary
to keep it straight. A long screwdriver helps as well, to align the
holes, I mean.

I don't think I'd modify the brackets yet.. They WILL work, but it
may take more than one person. One to work the jack, one to push the
bolt, one to hold your beer, three to tell you how THEY did it. :)
Good Luck- Let me know if I can help- I have some pictures if you
need to see something.

Here is a pic of the mount attached-

I hope no one is offended by this joke, I found it rather humorous and think
most of you will too.

Jack was going to be married to Jill, so
his father sat him down for little fireside chat.
He says "Jack, let me tell you something.

On my wedding night in our honeymoon
suite, I took off my pants and handed them to your
mother, and said, 'Here try these on. So, she
did and said, 'These are too big, I can't wear
them. So I replied,...exactly. I wear the pants in
this family and I always will.
Ever since that night we have never had any
problems." "Hmmm," says Jack. He thinks that might be
a good thing to try.
So on, his honeymoon Jack takes off his
pants and says to Jill, "Here try these on." So she
does and says, "These are too large, they don't fit
me. "So Jack says, "...exactly.
I wear the pants in this family and I Always will,
and I don't want you to ever forget that."

Then Jill takes off her pants and hands them to Jack
and says, "Here, you try on mine." So he does
and says, "I can't get into your pants." So Jill
says,"...exactly. And if you don't change your
attitude, you never will........

I like to use a 48" high lift to jack mine up. If the 60" jack is too short you must have the tallest Jeep in Arizona :)

I bought some big heavy duty truck jack stands. They are quite a bit taller than the normal jackstands at the auto stores.

Jack your jeep from the leaf, or shackle, that will lift the side for sure.

Hi again Matt

I recently replaced the front springs in mine. Instead of getting the frame
way, way high up I did it this way: Lift the Jeep by the axle using floor
jacks under the spring plates until the tires are off the ground, then
remove the tires. Place some jackstands under the frame and lower the
axle......with the frame blocked up and the wheels off, the axle will droop
until the brakes are about 6 inches off the ground and then stop. This way
you have easy access to the springs without having to jack the truck up so
high that it's dangerous.

I use a floor jack with 21" of lift, (Wal-Mart - $40.00), put it under the
diff and when everything is off the ground I strap the jack stands on top of
my auto ramps, this allows the rear axle to hang free to enable access to
the diff.

If your just changing a tire, the idea others have already voiced, (strap or
chain the axle to the frame), is probably your best bet.

Hello All,

This is an automated message from the website, please do not reply to it!

Rick Norman is leading a Terminator (Upper) trail run on Saturday, January 27, 2001.

When: Meet at 9am
Where: Exit Table Mesa Rd (approx 30 mi. North of Phx), Go west approx 1/4 mi. to pullout area.
Rating: 4.0+
Length: 4-6 hours
CB Channel: 4

With rain in the forecast, the trail should be fun.

Upper Terminator can best be described as:
Rocks, waterfalls, off-camber spots and more rocks! Big Rocks.

Whereas there are several by-passes, even the by-passes have taken it's toll on sheet medal and paint.

This trail definitely requires full hard lockers in front and rear, lots of clearance, aggressive tires 33" or larger and an experienced driver.

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

I only use my HI-Lift out on the trail(if I remember to bring it), for what
it was designed for. When I am working on a vehicle, I would much rather use
a bottle or floor jack. Along with appropriate jack stands.
Hi-lifts are meant for out on the trail not in your garage.

I am kind of late on this, but have used the following method a few
times on a variety of vehicles.

1) Use car ramps.
2) put the floor jack on a pile of plywood pieces so it will reach the
axle and lift it
3) set up floor jacks on more wood. DON'T USE CINDER BLOCKS!!!!
4) Jack up the axle.
5) Slide in the jack stands on the wood pieces
5) Pull out the ramps.
6) Lower the jack.

you're in business!

If you don't don't have to take off the tires, just drive the Jeep up on
the car ramps.

Yup, I was dumb enough to take a job back at our Corporate offices in
Bloomington, Illinois. This is my original home, so at least I knew
what to expect. Putting a hardtop and full doors on my Jeep was a
sad day though.

There's one local club here (www.cijeep.com) but they're having
serious issues with direction and leadership, the type of problems an
established club will have. They're new and just trying to get off
the ground so things may turn around. I've managed to meet a few
dedicated Jeepers, but there's mostly "Yuppie" Jeep drivers here who
don't take their Jeeps off-road. I'm not saying this is bad, we just
don't have anything to talk about.

As far as azvjc.org, Mike has done an outstanding job of making it a
very user driven site. Once he enabled that, he took care of most
everything. I still field e-mails about the site or club as I get
them and try to keep up on the e-groups messages. The new job and
new house are keeping me pretty busy though.

I miss the sun, the mountains, the 4-wheeling, the azvjc. Ho hum.

Tom
